THE CHURCH AT ANTIOCH – Acts 11:19-26

THE CHURCH AT ANTIOCH

Acts 11:19-26
***The first ten chapters of Acts refers to the church @ Jerusalem.  It was a good church, but missed the heart of God which is the Great Commission
***The Lord raised up the church @ Antioch who had the heart of God
***The church @ Jerusalem is not mentioned again after chapter ten, but Antioch is
FACTORS @ ANTIOCH THAT MADE IT THE CHURCH
THAT HAD THE HEART OF GOD
FACTOR #1 – THE CHURCH AT ANTIOCH WAS AN OUTWARD FOCUSED CHURCH
-The church of Acts 2 started outward, but went inward
-the church missed the purpose of God – the Great Commission
               FOUR TRANSFER PRINCIPLES TO REMEMBER
(1) TRANSFER #1 – A transfer from one kingdom to another – Colossians 1:13-14
-before we are saved, we are a part of the Great Commission because we needed  to be saved and born again
Delivered – means to rescue
power – means the authority/the rule/the domination
*Before we are saved, we are ruled by the enemy
*after we are saved, we are delivered from the enemy and His rule – rescued
conveyed…brought us…translated – means to transfer…removed from one place to another…a big transportation of people
-at salvation, we are moved from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light
TRANSFER #2 -A transfer of God’s Word into our lives – Matthew 28:18-20
-we must follow the Word of God
-the Lord gave us a Word – Matthew 28:18-20 – the Great Commission
-each believer must be the witness and not the church services……
TRANSFER #3 – A transfer of power and goodness to the believer – Acts 1:8
     1. A transfer of the Lord’s Goodness
-evangelism flows out of what the Lord has done for us
     2. A transfer of the Lord’s power
-whatever the Lord asks us to do, He gives us the power to do it
TRANSFER #4 – A transfer of ownership from us to HIm – Matthew 24:24-26
-we must deny what we want and obey what He wants
-the Lord owns us and we must surrender to His ownership
-we must surrender in our thinking
TWO MENTALITIES WE MUST ALL BREAK
1. The Come To Me Mentality
-people will just automatically come to church
-60% of our culture will not come to any church
2. The Lord Will Do It Mentality
-the Lord is going to do it…He will get the job done
FACTOR #2  – THERE WAS A RADICAL IDENTIFICATION WITH JESUS CHRIST  – Acts 11:26b
-they were first called Christians @ Antioch – Christ Like
-something was different about this group of people
-they made Jesus Christ Lord
-v20 – preached the Lord
-v21 – the hand of the Lord
-v21 – turned to the Lord
-v24 – added to the Lord
13:2 – ministered to the lord
Jesus being our Lord means:
1. We obey our Lord without any questions at all
-this is hard when we can question people in our lives
-obey the call to the Great Commission
2. We only please Jesus
-everything we do needs to please Jesus
3. We honor all people – 1 Peter 2:17
-we honor all people because they are create by God
