Psalm 23

v1a – The Lord is My Shepherd
The Lord – is a combination of 3 Hebrew words:
1. Hahyal – it means “HE WAS” – this speaks of the past
-we must remember what the Lord has done for us in the past – personally and Biblically
     3 Things About The Past
                 1. Forgive – your past is forgiven – Psalm 130:4
                 2. Forget – do not let it consume you and you cannot change it
                 3. Forward – Phil 3:12-14 – press forward in Jesus
2. Hove – means “BEING” – speaks of the present
-He is a God of the NOW
-He exists and is real
3. Yehi – it means “HE WILL BE” – speaks of the future
-the Lord will do great things for you in the future
My Shepherd – is Jehovah Rohi
-it means the Lord is our close companion and friend
-it speaks of relationship MY SHEPHERD
        Jesus is called the GOOD SHEPHERD – John 10:7-16
-it shows He is God – vs11,14 – I AM
         Jesus is called the Chief Shepherd – 1 Peter 5:4
-this is the Shepherd who is returning
         Jesus is called the Great Shepherd – Hebrews 13:20-21
-it reveals that there is only one Shepherd
***Since there is a Shepherd, there must be some sheep………
sheep move in flocks – Heb 10:25
sheep have shepherds – everyone needs a home church and Pastor
3 main kinds of sheep
             1. Fence Sheep
always on the outside of the camp…do not committ….rub up against the barbwire until they die
             2. Maverick Sheep
do not submit to authority..independent…do their own thing
             3. Domestic Sheep
commit…join…submit…serve…give…pray…
v1b – I SHALL NOT WANT
                      This Speaks Of 2 Things:
(1) THE LORD TAKES AWAY OUR WANT
-the Lord touches us at salvation and we don’t need things any longer
-we only want Jesus and spiritual things.  He is our everything…
          *** OUR WANTS REVEAL OUR LEVEL OF MATURITY***
-lets not remain little children in our faith…lets become men and women of God
-the Lord will simply add things to us – Matthew 6:33

STUFF…..
        1. Stuff will not make us happy or last
        2. Stuff cannot be taken with you – 1 Tim 6:6-10 (v7)
        3. Stuff does not belong to us
-everything comes from the Lord and belongs to the Lord…
(2) THE LORD PROVIDES ALL OF OUR NEEDS
-the Lord is Jehovah Jireh – the Lord our Provider
-Jesus Christ provides evernything
The Lord’s Provision:
     a. is based on priority – Matthew 6:33
knowing Jesus automatically brings provision
     b. is based on planting – Gal 6:7 & Phil 4:15-16,19
     c. is based on praise
-praise the Lord for his provision
