First John

                                                 IF
                                           1 John 1:9
IF – one little two letter word
IF scriptures are CONDITIONAL PROMISES from the Lord
There are 2 parts to Conditional Promises
          1. THE CONDITION
-It is obeying what the Lord asks the believer to do
          2. THE PROMISE
-this is the promise the believer will receive for meeting the Lord’s condition
          1 John 1:9
THE CONDITION
“If we confess our sins”
THE PROMISE
“The Lord is faithful & just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness”
We – John refers to all of his readers and himself
Confess our sins –
sins are a violation of the Lord’s divine standard which is the Bible
sins means to miss the mark
Confess – means to agree…to say the same thing the Lord says/to admit
     – the word confess refers to repentance
If we obey the condition, we receive the promise…..
He – this is Jesus Christ – only Jesus can forgive our sins
Focus on the Person (Jesus) who can forgive and not on sins
When the Lord forgives, He forgives…..Jesus forgives the first time you ask Him to forgive
Faithful – means the Lord can be counted on/He keeps His word
Just – means to be right and free from favoritism
Forgive – means to lift off and send away
***The Lord lifts from us shame, condemnation and guilt
Cleanse – means to purify…makes us clean and pure
All – Jesus Christ forgives ALL of our sins
Jesus never holds our sins against us – Isaiah 43:25
