Sermon Notes 2/16 – First John – IF
IF
1 John1:9 & John 15:7
Conditional Promise are IF scriptures
Condition – the Lord presents something believers have to do
Promise – This is what the Lord will do if we meet His conditions
IF we ABIDE in the Lord…….John 15:7
THE THEME OF JOHN IS ABIDING
-used 53 times in all of Johns writings
-used 10 times in the first ten verses of the gospel of John
Abide – means to stay, to stand fast and remain in
-The Lord gives us STAYING POWER
WE ABIDE IN JESUS CHRIST – THE TRUE VINE
-true means the real deal…that which is genuine
relativism – it says there is no standard concerning right or wrong and anything goes
Vine – is singular meaning there is only one true vine and He is Jesus
-the True Vine pumps into us strength and spiritual nourishment
3 ABIDING PRINCIPLES THAT ARE ALL TIED TOGETHER
1. Abiding Is A Priority – Matthew 6:33
-it must be the #1 priority in the life of every believer – spending daily time with Jesus
2.Abiding is Revival – John 15:16
revival means to make alive again/an awakening
***Revival is personal – it is not a big meeting or a great church service. These are outpourings of the Holy Spirit. Outpourings produce a spark that can lead to a personal revival
3. Abiding is Discipline – Revival is discipline – 2 Tim 1:7
BENEFITS OF ABIDING
1.) The Lord will hear and answer all of our prayers – John 15:7
***Abiding is a choice…….
—Since we know that if we abide in the Lord that the Lord answers all of our prayers – then our prayers must be unlimited – Ephesians 3:20-21
-Pray to the Lords Limit and not your own limit – The Lord has no limits
-The Lords’ limits are always worth waiting for
-Remember: The deadliest silence is when the Lord cannot hear you
-Psalm 66:16-20/Prov 28:9 & Prov 21:3
2.) We will receive a full joy – John 15:11
-the worlds joy is temporary – based on events and it wears off
-the Lord’s joy is permanent – Nehemiah 8:10 – MY JOY
-The joy of the Lord is STRENGTH…….
