Sermon Notes 12/14 – The Star

-In the scriptures about Christmas, the star represents the Holy Spirit
(1.) THE STAR APPEARED – Matthew 2:7
-the star appeared in the beginning – He has always been – He is God
-the eternal Spirit – Hebrews 9:14
-Dt 6:4-5 there is only one God
-2 Cor 13:14 – reveals the trinity
-Being the third person in the trinity does not reveal a lack of importance
The Holy Spirit appears first in Genesis 1:1
         ***The Holy Spirit was on the move – Genesis 1:2 & Acts 2:17-21
(2.) THE HOLY SPIRIT PRODUCES GREAT JOY – Matthew 2:10 & Lk 2:10
***Great joy is a choice
                  a. Great joy is the Lord’s choice for all of humanity
***salvation brings us into the Lord’s kingdom – Romans 14:17 – a kingdom of joy
***heaven is a place of joy – Rev 5:12-14
***We must choose great joy because it is God’s will – 1 Thess 5:16-21
***We must choose joy to gain strength to live – Nehemiah 8:10
(3.) THE JOY POINTS TO JESUS CHRIST – Matthew 2:9
1 Cor 3:1-9 – only worship Jesus and not the Lords’ servants
***Jesus is the ONLY Savior of the world – Matt 3:13-17
         -for those who are Jewish and Gentiles – the wise men were Gentiles – Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11
          -it is a narrow road – Matthew 7:13-14
-The Savior of the world is the Prince of Peace – Isaiah 9:6-7a
     ***John 14:27 – My Peace – the Lord’s Peace
     ***John 16:33
     ***You may have – means to hold on to/to possess – a supernatural peace
     ***Peace – is a stoppage of conflict/inner stability/distractions are removed
     ***Tribulation – refers to pressures
     ***Overcome – means to completely conquer
***PEACE IS NOT DETERMINED BY WHAT WE POSSESS, BUT BY WHO POSSESSES US***
PROVERBS 17:1
Dry Mosel – old bread sitting around…has lost its taste…is just a little bit of bread
House Full – well furnished and a huge spread of food
***It is better to have a little and peace of mind than to have alot of stuff with
              a lack of peace and strife
