Sermon Notes 1/26 – Declare
DECLARE
-declare is used 3 times in the first 5 verse of 1 John 1
-declare means to make something known/to state a fact outloud – Gods’ promises
1 John 1:1-5
Verses 1:1-2 – THE INCARNATION
-God came to earth in the form of man Jesus Christ
***He has always been/not created/is Light & has never sinned
John declares all of this, but gives two main Declarations in 1 John 1:1-5:
1. We need to declare our identity
2. We need to declare the Omniscience of God
WE NEED TO DECLARE OUR IDENTITY – vs2b-3
fellowship and eternal life refer to being saved and then partnering with the Lord
-Identity theft exists from the enemy – John 10:10 – he lies to us
-Our identity as believers is only in Jesus Christ
-We need to declare who God says we are – 1 Peter 2:9
-say it outloud – say it like you mean it
Identity Points:
1.) OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST CAN NEVER BE REVERSED – 1 John 5:13
1 John 5:13 – the word know means to absolutely positively and with 100% confidence can know we are saved and have received our God given identity
2.) WHAT WE STRUGGLE WITH IS NOT WHO WE ARE – ROMANS 7:15-20
-everyone struggles with something
-Remember two things:
***WHAT WE DO MAY NOT BE GOOD, BUT WE ARE STILL GOOD
***SELF ESTEEM IS NOT THE GOAL. GOD-ESTEEM IS THE GOAL. ITS NOT WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT YOU, BUT WHAT GOD THINKS ABOUT YOU
3.) THE ENEMY WILL ATTEMPT TO REDEFINE WHO WE ARE – Matt 4:1-11
***Do not allow satan to use the Holy Spirits work to condemn you
***Declare two words
-I Am…
WE NEED TO DECLARE THE OMNISCIENCE OF GOD – Psalm 139:4
-Jesus Christ is God – He knows and sees everything
-The Lord knows what our thoughts are – Mark 2:1-12 (v8) & John 2:23-25
