Sermon Notes 1/23 – Zechariah

a. visions are for then and now – Acts 2:17-21

Visions must line up with the Word

Visions do not direct the believer

Visions can be for now or for the future

VISION #! – THE VISION OF THE MAN AND THE HOSES AMONG THE MYRTLE TREES – vs7-17

v8 – Zechariha is fully awake and conscious – I SAW

Myrtle trees – this represents Israel

Hollow – this is a ravine – a low spot or place in the lives of the Jewish people

Man Riding on the Red Horse – represents Jesus and His blood

Red horses – symbolizes war and bloodshed concerning Israel

Speckled horses – means to intertwine – grace, mercy and discipline are combined

White Horses – means victory, Triumph and peace

verse 9 – My lord – this was a term of respect and Zechariah is not calling an angel Lord

verse 10 – these horses represent angels

verse 11 – Angel of the Lord – speaks of Jesus

     ***Jesus is not an angel, but a messenger with a message

The angels report to the Lord and say the world is at rest – to lie down & relax

v12 – Lord of Hosts – means Jehovah of the armies – an army of angels

HOW LONG??? – Israel is still in captivity

verse 13  – good and comforting words for Israel – valuable & gracious words

***The Lord is saying IT IS TIME

Proclaim – means to call out with energy and spirit – to make known

vs 14-17 – are the words to proclaim/blessings from the Lord/repentance produces blessings – Matthew 6:33

vs14-15 – the first blessing of the Lord – THE PROTECTION OF THE LORD

zeal – is passion and deep emotion for someone

Zion – are believers in Jerusalem

             ***The Lord protects and blesses non-Christians because of Christians

2 Thess 2:5-12 – Christians are the resisting force on earth right now

Genesis 30:25-30 – Jacob and Laban

verse 15 – The Lord used the nations of the world to discipline Israel and went too far, but then the Lord said, “That’s Enough.”

verse 16 – THE LORD WILL RESTORE EVERYTHING THAT IS LOST

A SURVEYORS LINE – this was to measure where houses, the temple and businesses  would go

—The Lord’s house will be built first

—The Lord’s house will be built today – it is people

—Joshua 1:5 & Matthew 16:18

verse 17 – THE LORD WILL PROSPER YOU – Another Blessing of the Lord

spread out – speaks of super abundance/overflow/coming from everywhere

                        ZECHARIAH 1:18-21

VISION #2 – THE VISION OF THE 4 horns and the 4 Craftsmen

verse 18 – Zechariah looks up physically and spiritually

4 horns  – represents 4 empires

verse 19 – 4 empires that took over and ruled Israel

***Babylonian Empire

***Medo-Persina Empire

***Grecian Empire

***Roamn Empire

verse 20 – the 4 Craftsmen – represent skilled workers of metal, wood & stone

-these craftsmen were used by the Lord to defeat the other empires

-the 4th Craftsman is the Kingdom of God – Daniel 2:44
