Sermon Notes 1/2 – Out with the Old In with the New

The Lord will equip us to do great things if we keep focus on Him and not ourselves

Philippians 3:12-13
Paul gave us the best method to forget the past and look to the Future

Forget
  • The first part of the Greek word means: turning from one thing to focus on something else
  • The Second part describes something that is finished and done, no longer valid and obsolete.
 Behind
  • So obsolete it should be abandoned or left behind.
  • You are never to turn around and focus on it again.

The enemy wants us to know our failures because it takes our eyes off the one who gives us victory

Jesus Showed us what do do
Matthew 16:22-23

Jesus Spoke up with great authority and said ” Get behind me satan”
Jesus was calling out with authority the words that Peter was using, Peter was allowing satan to influence him.
We must do what Jesus did and speak with authority against the devil inspired ideas
The Same greek word “Behind “was used in Matthew 16

You do as Jesus did and you use your authority.
  • Speak against those thoughts
  • Speak with bold authority
Knowing the Word of God is so important because you can speak against those negative things with the Word.
When Jesus was tempted He Used His Authority and the Word
  • The Word is a Sword
  • The word is a Light
Philippians 3:12
None of us will ever Make It ( on this side of Heaven)
It takes the pressure off because our pressing forward NEEDS to be to focus on the Lord

Philippians 3:7-11
Paul compares everything He has done as garbage or dung dung compared to the Knowledge of Christ

The Knowing is an intimate relationship (not just knowing of an existence)

Don’t be a Spiritual Hoarder

In order for the Lord to Fill you up and make you a better person in 25, we need to do some cleaning.

Some people’s Spiritual lives are like that, rather than dealing with the issues and keeping their heart and mind clean and clear, the spiritual garbage keeps piling up.
Piles of:
  • Bitterness
  • Resentment
  • Un-forgiveness
  • Anger
Hoarding is a refusal to let go of

Isaiah 43:18-19
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”
2 Corinthians 5:17:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
“knowing” can be compared to a close, personal relationship where one not only understands the facts about someone but also shares life with them.
When you KNOW Jesus, you will experience these 4 things:
  • Experiential Knowledge: experiencing His presence in your life
  • Relational Knowledge: a personal, ongoing relationship with Jesus—like how we know a close friend or family member
  • Transformational Knowledge: As you know Him more deeply, your life changes.
  • Covenantal Knowledge: being part of God’s greater redemptive plan, aligned with His purposes.
Philippians 3:12-14:

Reaching forth: Like running a race but running with everything you have, at the final lap and finishing like a winner.
The Holy Spirit, He gives us this supernatural power to run this last lap.
Tackle the Mess Immediately
Hebrews 12:14-15 – “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”
Ephesians 4:26-27 – “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
