Sermon Notes 1/16 – Zechariah
Zechariah means the Lord remembers
v2 – the Lord speaks to past generations
-The Lord is angry with their ways which were against the Lord
v3 – The Lord speaks
-He is the Lord of Hosts – means Jehovah of armies – He directs the angels
– means an organized army ready for war
-The Lord is saying to Israel and all of us – Repent
-This is an invitation
-Return to me is repentance
-Isaiah 30:18-26 – wait (v18) – means to tap the foot – waiting for us to repent
verse 4 – the past generation did not listen to the prophets & the Word of God
-there are consequences when we follow or do not follow the Lord and His Word
***Turn now – means to repent from your wrong conduct
***Give Heed – means Up To The Ears – speaks of obeying the Lord
verse 5 – The response of the People to the voice of the Lord
fathers & prophets – they have all died
-what is being said by the Lord is not relevant – we will no tobey
verse 6 – the people come to their senses – the Lord will get you sooner or later
Verses 7-17 – 8 – Visions are received by Zechariah in one night
*Visions are for the past and now – Acts 2:17-21
*Visions must line up with the Word of God
*Visions do not direct the believer
*Visions can be for the present of the future
VISION #1- the Vision of the Man & the Horses Among The Myrtle Trees
v7 – King Darius is the Persian ruler in 519BC
v8 – I saw – to see when someone is awake and fully conscious
Myrtle trees – they are shrubs 6-8′ tall and represent Israel – Israel will bloom
Hollow – this is a ravine. It represents that Israel is in a low place/at the bottom
The man riding on the Red Horse – this is Jesus Christ. Red speaks of His blood
Behind Him – Jesus is #1 and everyone else is behind Him. He is out front…
Red horses – symbolize war and bloodshed
Speckled horses – means to intertwine…there is grace, but also discipline
White Horses – means victory, triumph and peace
verse 9 – my lord – a term of respect and it is not calling the angle Lord
verse 10 – these horses are angels dispersed throughout the world
verse 11 – angel of the Lord – speaks of Jesus – He is not an angel, but a messenger with a message
resting – means to lie down and relax – the world at this time has no wars going on
verse 12 – HOW LONG? – when is Israel going to be set free from bondage
verse 13 – good & comforting words come from the Lord
— valuable…gracious… reassuring and useful words
— The Lord was saying IT IS TIME – for Israel to be delivered
verse 14 – PROCLAIM – means to call out with energy and spirit – make it public
vs14-17 – are the words to proclaim…these are blessings from the Lord
The first blessing from the Lord – The Protection of the Lord
zeal – is passion and deep emotion for someone
Zion – are believers in Jerusalem
-the Lord protects and blesses non-Christians because of Christians
