The Principle of Honor
Proverbs 3:9
Honor – means to attach high importance to
– To have a high respect for
– To give value or worth to someone or something
– To give maximum appreciation to
– To regard favorably
(1) HONOR CARRIES WITH IT A FULL REWARD – 2 John 8

Look to Yourselves – means to examine yourself/watch out for yourself
– Look inward and determine if you are honoring authorities and people
We can lose those things we have worked for
– By disobeying the Word of God/rejecting wise counsel/making wrong decisions

– Finish strong

That we may receive a full reward
-God is a Rewarder – Heb 11:6

– Since there is a full reward, there can be a partial reward and no reward

(2) A LACK OF HONOR CAN RESTRAIN THE WORKS OF THE LORD – Mark 6:1-6 (v5)

v5 – Jesus wants to perform great works, but cannot when there is a dishonoring spirit. That spirit restrains the hand of the Lord moving…

3 WAYS TO PRACTICE THE PRINCIPLE OF HONOR

(1) OUR SPEECH – Titus 2:7-8 & col 4:6
– We are to build up and not tear down with our speech

(2) OUR BEHAVIOR – 1 Peter 2:11-15
– Our behavior reveals our honor for people and authorities

(3) OUR THOUGHTS – Luke 5:17-26
– The Lord knows what we are thinking

WHO ARE WE TO HONOR?

1. HONOR ALL PEOPLE – 1 Peter 2:17
– We can honor all people because they are all created by the Lord

– We can honor people by our outreach – Luke 10″3-38 (v33)

– We value God’s creation

2. HONOR THOSE IN AUTHORITY – 1 Peter 2:17
– Submit to the authority of all of those in authority over us
– Honor the office and no the person
– Submit to all laws unless they go against the Lord and His Word
3. HONOR YOUR PASTOR – 1 Timothy 5:17-19

Double honor – is double respect, praise, wages, prayer, blessing & positive talk
4. HONOR THE LORD
– Have a high respect for Jesus Christ
– Have a maximum appreciation for Jesus
– Regard Him favorably
