    1. 16:1 Jesus Told His disciples = Jesus was teaching his disciples mean-while the Pharisees were listening in
    2. 16:1-13 The Lord was teaching concerning WEALTH and shared the parable of the dishonest manager or the unrighteous steward
    3. Jesus ministered to people who were poor and who thought that acquiring more wealth was the solution to all their problems
    4. 16:13 Paraphrased “You cannot serve God and Money”
    5. You can have God and Have money but you can’t serve them both
    6. Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master
    7. The Pharisees believed that material prosperity is a sign of true spirituality
    8. 16:14 The Pharisees who loved money heard all this and were sneering at Jesus
    9. Matthew 16:19 Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven

 

  1. Eternal perspective
    1. 16:15 You are those who JUSTIFY yourselves in the sight of men
    2. You CANNOT JUSTIFY YOURSELF
    3. Romans 3:24 being justified as a gift through His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus
    4. 16 Pharisees you have Genesis to Malachi The law and the Prophets. Then John the Baptist Now the Good news of the Kingdom of God. I am the fulfillment of the law
    5. The Pharisees sin was unbelief
    6. Jesus was saying to them this is what your attitude will get you, most of this teaching is concerning hell

 

  1. Lazarus
    1. 16:20 And a certain poor man named LAZARUS was laid at his gate covered with sores
    2. Greek Lazarus Hebrew Eleazar = God is my help
    3. 16:21 The dogs were the lowest from of life
    4. 16:22 Now it came about that the poor man died and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom
    5. Abraham’s bosom = to occupy the seat next to Abraham. A state of bliss after death
    6. Isaiah 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting on a throne high and lifted up and the train of his robe filled the temple
    7. Ezekiel 1:26 And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne in appearance like a sapphire stone and on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above it
    8. Revelation 4:2 Immediately I wasn in the Spirit and behold a throne set in heaven and One sat on the throne
    9. The Throne reminds us of His Power Authority and Sovereignty
    10. John 14:13 Let not your heart be troubled you believe in God believe also in Me.  In My Father’s house are many mansions.  If it were not so I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you

 

  1. The Rich Man
    1. 16:19 Now there was a certain RICH MAN and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen gaily living in splendor every day
    2. Purple royalty/extravagant living
    3. 16:22-23 and the rich man died and was buried and in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom
    4. Greek = Hades English = hell
    5. This is not the Lake of fire in Rev 20:14 which is the second death
    6. With in the underworld or what the bible refers to as the lower parts of the earth there are several compartments
    7. Paradise (Luke 23:43) = a place of bliss
    8. Hades (Luke16:23) = a place of torment for unsaved dead
    9. Tartarus (2 Peter 2:4) = a deep hole or a pit reserved for fallen angels
    10. Ephesians 4:7-10 When Jesus Ascended He took all old testament saints with him from paradise to the 3rd heaven
    11. Revelation 1:18 I was dead and behold I am alive forevermore and I have the keys of death and of hell
    12. Corinthians 5:8 we are of good courage I say and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord

 

  1. Eternal Perspective there will be a rapture
    1. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouse to meet the Lord in the air

 

  1. Eternal Perspective The Lord is going to return soon
    1. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God
