Sermon Notes 2/20 – Zechariah

ISRAEL’S  CALL – vs6-9

verse 6  – Zechariah is speaking

Up or come – a call to Israel to leave the world system – Here it is Babylon

               WORLD:

1. the beautiful world the Lord has created

2. Kosmos – the world system ruled by the devil

          2 Corinthians 6:14-18

verse 7 – Up – Come – – – – Zion – all born again believers

dwell – speaks of rubbing shoulders with/getting close to

The world system has a pull attached to it….its goal is to pull people away from Jesus and Christianity

vs8-9 – Israel didn’t want to leave the world system – Babylon – the system that was out to destroy them

             —we fight the world system by being filled with the Holy Spirit

ISRAEL’S POSITION – vs 10-13

-Israel is God’s chosen people -v8

Sing – means to shout outloud and for joy

daughter of Zion – represents the children of God

Behold – this is an attention getting word – Jesus is coming back to live on earth

-this speaks of the Lord’s return and His millennial reign

 verse 11 – Many people will be saved when Jesus returns

verse 12 – Jesus will rule Himself

verse 13 – Be Silent – do not say anything against the return of the Lord, the rapture – submit to His plan – Mockers will arise in the last days

                                   ZECHARIAH 3:1-5

                                       The 4th Vision

                              The Vision of the High Priest

vs1-3 – A Picture of Israel

vs4-5 – Israel’s Pardon

verse 1 – there are 5 Characters mentioned in verse 1

1. he – is an angel

2. Joshua – represents the nation of Israel – Joshua means Jehovah saves

3. Angel of the Lord – this refers to Jesus Christ

4. satan – this is the devil  – it means opponent

5. me – this is Zechariah

verse 2 – The Lord’s power is much greater than the devils power

rebuke – to address with authority – the name of Jesus defeats every power of the enemy

chosen Israel – means to select to be saved – 2 Peter 3:9

brand – means a burning stick – every human being before being saved are on fire which means they are on their way to hell

plucked – means to grab – grabs and pulls us out of the fire

verse 3 – Joshua is the high priest of Israel and represents the people of Israel

Joshua is filthy –  it means to be covered with dung & manure

-Israel has sinned and is away from the Lord – Romans 3:23 – all have sinned

Joshua is silent – Israel was guilty and when you are guilty you are silent

The enemy accuses us when we sin – Revelation 12:7-12

The enemy is a liar – One of his lies is: Some sins are beyond forgiveness

We can overcome the enemys accusations in 2 ways:

        1. by the blood of the Lamb – the enemy is defeated through the blood of Jesus

        2. By the Word of our testimony – by what we speak
