Sermon Notes 2/6 – Zechariah

Zechariah 2 can be divided into 3 parts:

        1. vs1-5 – Israel’s Future

        2. vs6-19 – Israel’s Call

        3. vs10-13 – Israel’s Position

ISRAELS FUTURE – vs1-5

lifted up my eyes – Zechariah was wide awake and conscious & received this vision

Behold – means to grab someones attention

Man – refers to Jesus being all God and all man

   —PHIL 2:5-11 – THE KENOSIS OF JESUS CHRIST

Jesus emptied Himself of His divine attributes & selfishness and relied on the Holy Spirit

verse 2 – Jesus measuring the size of Israel to show how prosperous there future will be

verses 3-4 – two angels of the Lord are present – Hebrews 1:14

       v4 – the young man is Zechariah

-the angels tell Zechariah that the future of Israel will be good

Deut 28:13 — Zechariah 12:8 – 13:1…Jeremiah 3:16-17

-The future of the body of Christ can also be prosperous if they will repent

verse 5 – 2 Characteristics of the Lord

1. The Lord is a consuming  and wall of fire  – Hebrews 12:29 & Exodus 13:17-22

—fire produces sparks – refers to supernatural God enthusiasm & movement

2. The Lord is the God of glory –

-theological presence

-manifest presence

-eternal presence

ISRAELS CALL – vs 6-9

Zechariah is speaking here

up – up – a call to Israel to come out of the world

                     ***a call to be saved & get back to Israel – Is 11:11-12 – Israel is spread around the world

world – the world that God created

world – kosmos – the world the enemy rules over – Col 1:13-14

verse 7 – up – this to all believers

dwell – refers to rubbing shoulders with …getting close to

2 Corinthians 6:14-18

verse 8-9 – Israel didn’t want to leave because things were going good

we are to run away from the world system……

ISRAELS POSITION – vs10-13

sing – means to shout outloud and for joy

—for the Lord’s coming and for all of the time

daughter of zion – represents all of God’s children

I Am Coming – a promise from the Lord to humanity

dwell – means to reside and live in – this is the Millennial Kingdom

Isaiah 35:1-2, 5-7…Isaiah 11:6-10…Isaiah 2:4

verse 11 – many people will be saved when Jesus returns

verse 12 – The Lord will rule over the people Himself

verse 13 – be silent – don’t say one word about the coming of the Lord

land of the north is Babylon
