Zechariah 2
Vision #3 — THE MAN WITH THE MEASURING LINE
(1) vs1-5 – ISRAEL’S FUTURE
v1 – another vision comes to Zechariah
Behold – means to get the attention of people
vs2-4 – The man is Jesus. He is the God – man — Phil 2:5-11
vs2-4 – Jesus is laying out the measuring line. He is showing how awesome the future of Israel will be
v4 – New settlement – borders will expand – prosperity…more people coming to Israel
– We will have a bright future – Jeremiah 29:11
2 Characteristics of God
(1) OUR GOD IS A CONSUMING FIRE – v5
This fire will protect Israel from all of their enemies
This fire will comfort Israel in all of their trials
This fire will purge Israel of its sin
(2) OUR GOD IS A GOD OF GLORY – v5
Glory – represents the presence of the Lord
– Speaks of weight – the weight of the Lord’s presence
What brings the glory of God down?
1. Suffering – 1 Peter 4:12-13
2. Praise and Worship – 2 Chr 5:13-14 & 7:1-3
(2) ISRAEL’S CALL – vs6-9
This is God calling Israel out of the world…Babylon represents the world system
v7 – Up Zion – believers get out of the world
Dwell – speaks of rubbing shoulders with/getting close to
v8 – Many of the Jewish people did not want to leave Babylon
v9 – The judgment of God is coming – get out of the world system
– The believer is exempt from the judgment of God – 1 Thess 1:9-10 & 5:9-11
***GREAT IS THE PERSON WHO CAN HANDLE THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD***
ISRAEL’S CALL IS A 2-FOLD CALL
1. A call for everyone to be saved
– Those who are gentile and jewish
Call – means to invite…call outloud…a personal call
2. A call for every believer to stay close to the Lord – 2 Cor 6:14-18
Unequally yoked – refers to marriages, businesses, Tv, internet & media
– The world uses the bad and the good to draw us away from Jesus
(3) ISRAEL’S POSITION – vs10-13
v10 – Sing and rejoice – be glad…shout out loud
Zion – is all believers
v10 – The Lord is coming back soon
Behold – to get ones attention
Dwell – to live and reside in
Jesus will dwell in and rule from Jerusalem in the temple
v11 – Many nations will join with me – be saved
v12 – Take possession of Judah
– The Lord will rule Himself over people and the universe
– Choose Jerusalem – the capital of the world & Israel
v13 – Aroused – the Lord is awake and alert
Holy habitation – this is heaven and the lord is coming back
Be silent – I hear your prayers, but be silent and know I am waiting of more people to be saved before I return
Zechariah 3:1-5
The Fourth Vision – The Vision of the high Priest
vs 1-3 – A picture of Israel as condemned
vs 4-5 – Israel’s pardon
v1 – There are 5 characters mentioned in v1
He – is an angel
Joshua – represents the nation of Israel
Angel of the Lord – this is Jesus Christ. He is not an angel, but this speaks of being a messenger
satan – this is the devil…means an opponent…is against us
Me – this is Zechariah
v3 – Joshua represent the children of Israel
1. Joshua is filthy – it means to be covered with dung, manure
– This has to do with Israel sinning
2. Joshua is silent – it shows mankind is guilty. We have all sinned. – Romans 2:1
Verse 1 – When we sin we break fellowship with God…
– The difference between relationship and fellowship
When Christians sin, the enemy is right there to accuse us and condemn us
Revelation 12:11 – we conquer our enemy in 3 ways:
1. Through the blood of the Lamb
– The blood of Jesus covers our sin
2. The Word of Our Testimony
– Speak the Word of God
– A great lie of the enemy – SOME SINS ARE BEYOND FORGIVENESS…….
3. Through the authority we have through Jesus Christ v2 –
Rebuke – means to address with authority
Chosen – mans to select – Jesus has selected everyone to be saved
Brand – means a burning stick
Plucked – means to grab
Fire – means hell
vs 4-5 Israel has sinned and fallen away. How can fellowship be restored?
Confession – means to say the same thing God has said/to agree with God/repentance – 1 Jn 1:9
v4 – Israel is guilty and sticks
The Lord says:
– He forgives Israel of all of their sins – removed your iniquity
– He gave us His righteousness -clothes you with rich robes
v5 – This is a complete cleansing
The turban was made of fine white linen wound around the head with a gold plate on the front engraved with the words – HOLINESS TO THE LORD…
