“Titus” – Part I

vs1-4 

       -v1 author – Paul

       -v4 written to – Titus

       -v4 greeting:  grace and peace

v1 – author:  Paul – written around 65A.D.

a. Paul’s name means little.  His gentile name

-he was hunch backed, could not see very well, was 5’5″, a rough raspy voice

-do not be paralyzed by your handicaps

v4 – written to:  Titus – means pleasant and was a Greek believer

a. a true son  – Titus was a genuine convert of Paul – the real deal

v4 – greeting – grace and peace

grace – means undeserved favor and blessings — something that is free

*grace is God’s goodness to man who does not deserve it

peace – to join together with God which brings rest, quiet and contentment

FROM – the source of peace is God

Lord and Savior –

-Lord means master; sir; one who is in control

-Savior – means deliverer

v1 – Paul – a bondservant of the Lord

bondservant – is doulos in the Greek language

-includes being a doulos for life

-the word is used in NT – Rom 1:1…Phil 1:1…James 1:1…2 Peter 1:1

Qualities of a Bondservant

(1) A doulos, a bond servant, has a willing spirit 

-Titus did and served Paul in a variety of ways

-to gain a willing spirit, you have to give yourself over to the will of another

-then you are willing to do anything for the Lord

-we must be willing to let go of everything

(2)  A DOULOS, A BOND SERVANT, IS TOTALLY SUBMITTED TO AUTHORITY

-submit ourselves to the Lord – James 4:7

-then we have to submit to people

(1) EVERY BELIEVER IS ASKED BY THE LORD TO SUBMIT TO AUTHORITY – Rom 13:1

a. submission – means to line yourself under or beneath.  its a military term

b. the greatest example of submission is Jesus Christ

(2) SUBMISSION INCLUDES BOUNDARIES

-the Lord can use anyone who is FAT

v4 – written to:  Titus – a Greek believer whose name means pleasant

– a true son – the real deal as a believer/ a genuine Christian

v4 – greeting – grace and peace from God

Grace – means favor/not deserved or earned/free…this is God’s goodness even when we do not deserve it

Peace – means to join together which brings rest, quiet and contentment

From – the source of peace is Jesus Christ and not anything lease

Lord – means master; sir; one who is in control

Savior – means Deliverer

v1 – Paul is a bond servant of God

bondservant – is doulos in the Greek language

-It means a servant/an attendant/a slave

-includes being a believer for life

– Romans 1:1/Phil 1:1/James 1:1/2 Peter 1:1

QUALITIES OF A BONDSERVANT

(1)  A DOULOS, A BONDSERVANT, HAS A WILLING SPIRIT – 

-Titus had a willing spirit and did anything for Paul.  He served him…

a. to acquire a willing spirit, you have to give yourself over to the will of another

-we must surrender everything over to Jesus

(2) A DOULOS, A BOND SERVANT, IS TOTALLY SUBMITTED TO AUTHORITY

-we submit to the Lord – James 4:7

-we also have to submit to people

          a. EVERY BELIEVER IS ASKED BY THE LORD TO SUBMIT TO AUTHORITY – Romans 13:1

-submission is for every person

a. submission – means to line up under/to arrange beneath/to get in order

b. the greatest example of submission is Jesus Christ – Phil 2:5-11

          b. SUBMISSION INCLUDES BOUNDARIES – 

-Jesus set boundaries – Acts 4:12 & John 14:6

-it is not a control issue.  It is a healthy boundary

A big boundary concerning submission to authority

***A believer does not have to submit to any authority when they tell you or ask you to do anything against the Word of God

-Acts 5:12,14,17-18,25-29

-resist with a good tone, good Christian character, total love and gracious speech…….
