THE NAMES OF GOD
-There is only one true and living God. He has different names that reveal His qualities and character…
(1.) PSALM 91:1-2 – EL ELYON – THE MOST HIGH GOD
***El Elyon is higher than anyone else
***El Elyon is the Most High God of heaven and earth
a. El Elyon speaks of God seeing everything
1. I am not going to be involved in the occult – Dt 18:9-14
2. I am going to meet with El Elyon every day in the secret place
b. El Elyon speaks of Jesus being Lord
El Elyon is higher than any other person or god…
*Kyrios in the Greek in the NT
*Adonai in the Hebrew in the OT
(2.) ADONAI – PSALM 91:1-2
a. Adonai – is plural referring to one God and the trinity
*Adonai – means Master, Ruler and Lord
2 MAIN IDEAS ARE CONNECTED WITH ADONAI
1. Adonai is Sovereign
-Sovereignty – the Lord can do anything He wants to do with anyone at any time without asking anyones permission
-Example: Daniel 4:34-35
-Surrender to the Sovereignty of God
2. Adonai is an owner
-The Lord owns everything and we own nothing at all
-We must surrender to the Lord owning everything
(3.) JEHOVAH NISSI – EXODUS 17:8-16
-the Lord is our Banner
-the Most High Exalted God is to be lifted up
***When Moses lifts up his hands, rod or staff, this represents Moses lifting up a banner and lifting up the Lord……..
***When we lift up the Lord, Amalek is defeated
***Amalek represents the flesh
***The flesh is the old person we used to be that still dwells within us that is against the ways, will and Word of the Lord
***The flesh is defeated by spending time with Jesus every day = Eph 5:18 and Gal 5:16 and John 15:1-15
***The believer defeats the flesh:
a, through prayer – personal and corporate prayer – Moses lifting up his hands represents lifting up prayer to the Lord
b. The Word – leaning and standing on the Word of God – v12
c. Fellowship – v12 – we need to be around other believers for strength, help, prayer and love
