-The Lord for gave us and we must forgive others….
(1) WE MUST FORGIVE TO STAY RIGHT WITH THE LORD – 1 John 1:5-7
-we cannot allow anything to hinder our relationship with Jesus
-Relationship – being a born again Christian – John 3:1-8
-Fellowship is our consistent time with the Lord that allows us to grow – John 15:4-5
-everything can be forgiven
-unforgiveness is sin and hurts our fellowship with the Lord
(2) FORGIVING SOMEONE IS NOT CONDONING OR ACCEPTING THEIR BEHAVIOR – Luke 23:32-34
-Jesus forgave, but did not condone the behavior of the people
-the woman caught in adultery – Jesus forgave her, but said not to sin any more
(3) FORGIVING DOES NOT MEAN FORGETTING – Philippians 3:8-15
-it hurts when we are mistreated, but we must still forgive. Do not deny the hurt, but forgive…,
forget – means not to be consumed by the event that occurred, but we will still remember many of the hurst against us
CHOOSE TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT…
CHOOSE TO FORGIVE…
Even though we choose to forgive:
a. it doesn’t always mean a second chance will occur
b. there may not be a restoration of a relationship
c. the person’s reaction to you may not be pleasant
(4) FORGIVENESS IS NOT WANTING ANYTHING BAD FOR THE PERSON – Romans 12:17-21……Hebrews 10:30-31…..Galatians 6:7
-we must put down the flesh
-we must speak only good things about the person who has hurt us
-the principles in God’s Word will always be fulfilled. Allow the Lord to handle things…
(5) FORGIVENESS BRINGS BLESSING – MATTHEW 6:14
-when we do things right and follow God’s Word – we receive blessings
-we receive the Lord’s forgiveness
-we receive answered prayer
-we please the Lord
