THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
Chapter One
Verse 19 – A religious Resistance comes against John the Baptist…
-do not be a part of the resistance movement of the enemy – Matthew 16:21-23
-any of us can be used by the enemy
-believers are a part of a resistant movement by taking authority over the enemy as seen in James 4:7…….
Testimony – this speaks of a personal story of a person…
RESISTANCE STATEMENTS
1. RESISTANCE AUTOMATICALLY IS A SIGN THAT YOU HAVE DRAWN THE ATTENTION OF THE ENEMY – Acts 19:13-26
-we draw the attention of the enemy when we are on fire for Jesus
2. RESISTANCE IS A SIGN YOU ARE RIGHT ON TRACK – 1 Peter 4:12-13
-resistance reveals that you are right on track…….
-make sure the resistance force is the enemy and not just your fault…
-Resistance is when the power of hell comes against you
3. RESISTANCE CAN NEVER BE ALLOWED TO DISTRACT YOU
-keep going no matter how hard things get
-Nehemiah kept building when he was resisted – pick up a shovel & a sword
vs20-23 – John says He is not the Messiah and tells who he is
***John is ONE – availability
***The Voice – verbal…speaking up…crying means to shriek, roaring & public
***Wilderness – represents a very dry spiritual state
***Make Straight – give Jesus a straight shot into your heart & then He will straighten out your own life
—open up your heart and let Jesu sin – Revelation 3:20
vs24-28 – the religious resistance speaks up
v25 – John was under the authority of Jesus Christ and did everything by the authority of Jesus Christ…
v26 – Water baptism and repentance are connected
-water baptism does not save anyone. It reveals a person is saved
vs27-28 – the humility of John is stated here
v29 – Behold – means look, see and give me your attention
The Lamb of God – means a pet lamb…one who is gentle, kind and soft
Takes Away – means to wipe away
Sin – means the sin nature
***The problem in our culture is the sin nature and not people
***Salvation breaks the sin nature
***being filled with the Holy Spirit rules over the flesh.
vs30–34 – THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST TO JOHN THE BAPTIST
1. That Jesus would be the Savior of the world – v31
2. That Jesus is the Son of God – v34
3. That Jesus is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit – v33
THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit doeS not save you – Matthew 3:11
-it is Biblical
-it does not save you. Only being born again and knowing Jesus saves you
2. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a single event that becomes permanent in the Believer –
a. it is a single event to receive
b. it is permanent until you go to heaven
3. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit can get Sidetracked – pushed to the side – 1 Corinthians 14:39-40
-through fear/what people think/weird/out of order
-through theological debate
4. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is for Everyone – Acts 2:17-21, 38-39
-the Lord is not a respecter of persons

***if the Lord wants me to have this Biblical experience, then He will give it to me
