THE GOSPEL OF JOHN

Chapter One

verse 6 – Messenger

-the message of John was repentance

-John’s name means The Lord is Gracious

verse 7 – MISSION

-To be a witness – a witness tells everything they know – talk & be verbal

v8 – MOTIVE

John’s motive was to point people to Jesus – the true Jesus

-Galatians 1:8-10 – we are in the last days – false Christs and doctrine will be present

              a. 1 Corinthians 3:1-8 – celebrity Christianity must end

v9 – Jesus is the only true light – means real, genuine & authentic

*gives light to every man

*through creation – Romans 1:16-20, 2:1

verses 10-11 – The Light Is Blown Out

-humanity has a free will to blow out the Light

-Jesus lived in the kosmos

-the kosmos or world is 2 Things:

                1. The creation of God

                2. The world system ruled by the devil

verse 11 – To His Own – to those who were Jewish

-the majority rejected Jesus Christ  just like today – Matthew 7:13-14

verse 12 – Jesus was received by some

***at salvation you become a child of God

***unbelievers are only related to God through Creation.  They are not children of God

verse 13 – You must be born again through the blood of Jesus to be saved

***Being born again has nothing to do with your parents – “Not of blood”

***Being born again has nothing to do with the plan or design of humanity – “Not of the will of Man” — we are not saved by works

***Being born again has nothing to do with human desire — “Not the will of the flesh” – we had no desire to be saved and follow Jesus…….

verse 14 – THE INCARNATION

-God became flesh and dwelt among humanity

dwelt among us – it means to pitch a tent

Behold – means to stare @ for the long term

Beheld His glory

         1. The manifest presence of the Lord upon Jesus

         2. The inner glory of the Lord’s character

Full of grace and truth

-Jesus was full of grace and truth

-we need to be like Jesus

verse 15 – John bore witness

– bore witness is being verbal…

-John testified about Jesus when he shouted to the crowds

cried out – means to shout, shriek like a lion

-it is an emotional plea of transforming power

Preferred – means to rank higher that anyone

verse 16 – His fullness – this is the sum total of all of the attributed of Jesus

-we have all of the Lord – Col 2:10 – we are complete in Him – filled full of Him

***grace upon grace – it is grace being piled on top of grace for every situation we find ourselves in

verse 17 – law given – for Israel…pn cold stone tablets….only reveals the sin of people….cannot save us

grace and truth – can save us…for the gentiles and those who are Jewish…forgives our sins

verse 18 – No one has seen God – this is the fullness of His glory – no one has seen this

***the only begotten Son  – unique and one of a kind

***is in the bosom of the Father – has always been and existed…has been declared

verse 19 – a religious delegation -resisters – came to John to investigate John

RESISTANCE –

***is a force that hates the thought of believers doing something great to change the world

***is the ability to prevent  something from having an effect

***opposition

***is a force attempting to slow down or stop progress

             RESISTANCE STATEMENTS

1. RESISTANCE AUTOMATICALLY IS A SIGN THAT YOU HAVE DRAWN THE ATTENTION OF THE ENEMY

-any believer who moves forward spiritually, they will be opposed

-resist the enemy – James 4:7

2. RESISTANCE IS A SIGN THAT YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK

-rejoice because you are in the will of God when you are resisted

-make sure the resistance is the enemy and not because of your own wrong decisions

3. RESISTANCE CAN NEVER BE ALLOWED TO DISTRACT YOU

-keep going even when you sense, feel and are resisted

-Nehemiah is an example – have a sword in one hand and a shovel in the other hand
