Sermon Notes 9/6 – 1 Peter 3
1 PETER 3:8-12
Bible Principles from First Peter
Verse 8 – Finally – means Peter is making some more important points
All of you – these Bible principles are for every born-again believer
(1.) BE OF ONE MIND – Verse 8
-Means to express the same thoughts and vision/to cooperate & be together
-We all have to be of one mind for doctrines and vision in the church
-We cannot do what we want to do in business, at work, school, church, or home
(2.) TURN AWAY FROM SIN AND EVIL – Verse 11
-Turn Away – means to lean away, swerve to avoid
-Sin – it is disobedience against God’s perfect word and doing what God forbids
– It is missing the target or mark
– It is an action which breaks a Bible principle
4 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT SIN
1. BE CAREFUL ABOUT RESPECTABLE SINS – Romans 14:23
-Respectable sins are sins we feel are okay to do
-Do not categorize sins
-Sins are sins, but the consequences are different for each one
2. SIN HAS DISAPPEARED IN 2 WAYS
1. We rename it – Psalm 51:1-4,7-11
2. We try to hide it – Verse 12 – The Lord sees
-Never hide your sin – confess it/repent and be set free
-One thing we hide is our testimony
-A Lie – our faith in Christ needs to be public – Matthew 5:14-16
-Our faith is our Life – Colossians 3:1-4
(3.) PURSUE PEACE – Verse 11
-Seek and pursue – means to chase after and to hunt down – it is continual
-How do we hunt down peace?
WALK IN A SPIRIT OF RELEASE – Matthew 11:28 & 1 Peter 5:7
-Give everything to Jesus
-Cast is a wrestling term where you throw your opponent onto the mat
WE HAVE TO WATCH OUR MOUTHS – Isaiah 50:4
-Watch what you say to others and to yourself
-Our words contain power and peace
-Tongue of the learned – these are words shaped and trained by the Lord
-Speak Peace to yourself and others
