Sermon Notes 8/31 – The Last Days

  2 THESSALONIANS 2 & 2 TIMOTHY 3
Brethren – the believers at Thessalonica – speaks of the family of God
coming – is the personal return of Jesus/it refers to His personal presence
——-as the Lord’s return gets closer and closer, the presence of the Lord will get stronger and stronger
our gathering together to Him –
—the rapture and second coming of Jesus Christ are two different events – TO HIM
—it’s a complete collection/to assemble together – the same word is used for Christians gathering together
—all believers go in the rapture because of the grace of the Lord – 1 Thess 4:13-18
verse 2 – Paul is alerting all believers about what will be happening and they should keep it on their mind at all times
——-Do not soon be shaken – IN OUR MINDS
shaken – means to waver/be moved/alarmed/shocked
-last days events will come as a series of events and will not stop happening
-resist wavering and resist the enemy and resist all thoughts contrary to the Word
-Don’t be troubled – this is an inward fright and nervousness
Paul lists 3 items which could trouble Believers
          1. by spirit – represents a prophetic utterance
-don’t always say the Lord told me – be relatable
          2. by Word – a false verbal message
          3. by letter – a forged letter supposedly written by Paul
***Paul is saying: DIFFICULT TIMES WILL COME
2 TIMOTHY 3:1-10 – Difficult  – means very hard/dangerous/hard to deal with/savage
-it is the same word as used in Matthew 8:28 for demons
Know – means to absolutely positively know
—it means Be Knowing – it refers to keeping this on one’s mind
Last days – this is the time when Jesus will return
             DIFFICULT TIMES
1. DIFFICULT TIMES DO NOT CHANGE WHO GOD IS – Malachi 3:6
-Difficult times do not change the Lord
-The Lord is good – Psalm 100:5 & 34:18 & 145:1-21
-Stand on the Word of God and not on our feelings
2. DIFFICULT TIMES PROVE GOD IS A PROVIDER – 1 Kings 17:1-9
-the Lord will meet our needs and not our greeds
-the Lord will command people to provide for you
-Difficult times help us REMEMBER who our Provider is
***The Lord provides:
-as we work…pray and believe…supernaturally…Put Jesus first…Give
3. DIFFICULT TIMES SQUEEZE OUT THE I WILLS OF OUR CHRISTIANITY – PSALM 34:1-3
-Difficult times squeeze us
-Squeezing is good because we get to see what comes out
-Psalm 34 – I Will…….
4. DIFFICULT TIMES NEED TO CAUSE US TO REMEMBER – PS 77:11-12 AND DT 8:2-4
-Remember – means to bring all the power from past events into the future
-what the Lord did He will do again and more in the future
Pull down all wrong thoughts – 2 Cor 10:4-5
