Sermon Notes 8/1 – Mark 6

TWO AMAZEMENTS
1. The amazement of people – vs 1-4
astonished – means to lose control of yourself…..
2. The amazement of Jesus – vs5-6
-Jesus was amazed at their unbelief – lack of faith
-this was the second rejection of Jesus @ Nazareth – Luke 4:1-30
***Israel missed their time of visitation – Luke 19:41-44
            ——-Jesus is visiting earth right now and ccwc and all churches – Rev 3:20
        THERE WILL BE A VISITATION OF THE MIRACULOUS – Luke 7:11-17
v11 – Nain – means lovely – speaks of being gracious and delightful
v12 – a funeral procession is stopped
        THERE WILL BE A VISITATION OF SALVATION – Luke 1:68-75
-it is harvest time and this is what Christianity is all about
Mark 6:7 – Jesus teaches that a strategic shift must take place in the church today
                           —A PRIORITY SHIFT – from inreach to outreach
***Our mandate is the Great Commission – Matthew 28:18-20
***We cannot allow ourselves to be distracted from this mandate
***Doing the work of an evangelist is for all believers – 2 Timothy 4:5
verse 7  – SEND THEM OUT – means to end out on a mission with a commission
Where?  Into the Kosmos – the world system ruled by the devil & demons
-do not compromise or be friends with the world – James 4:4 – Invade the world
How do we go out?  2X2
-the # 2 refers to presence which leads to power
               *cast out demons and heal the sick – Matthew 18:19 & Luke 10:19
-The #2 refers to being a witness which means to tell people what they have seen
verses 8-9 – what can be taken on their journey:
-staff – to keep their balance
-sandals – one pair for travel
-one tunic – pack lightly
verse 8 – What you cannot take
* A bag – this was a beggars bag – we are not in this for money to live on.  We are doing the work of the Lord to help build the Kingdom of God
verse 10 – this speaks about follow up – they stayed in peoples homes to disciple them
verse 11 – shaking off the dust refers to the judgment of God was coming to them for their rejection of Jesus
verse 12 – preached – means to make a proclamation of the kings news with emotio—1 1 Peter 2:9 – advertise the gospel to everyone
verse 13 – casting out demons and healing everyone by the Lords power – POWER EVANGELISM
verse 14 – The NAME OF JESUS became well known –
