Sermon Notes 7/20 – In The Refiner’s Fire
In The Refiner’s Fire
1 Peter 1:6-7
Romans 5:4
4 and perseverance, [a]character; and character, hope
“Avoiding the fire might feel safe, but it’ll cost you the strength”
The Need be’s
“if need be, you have been [a]grieved by various trials”
There is a “need be” not only for the various trials, but more especially that there is a “need be” for being grieved itself.
Grief puts things into prospective
Malachi 3:3
1: The Refiner’s Fire EXPOSES Impurities
Our faith isn’t tested because God doesn’t know how much or what kind of faith we have.
It is tested because we often are ignorant of how much or what kind of faith we have.
All Trials do is expose what’s already inside—pride, anger, unbelief, fear.
“If you are not actively removing the junk thats inside, you are full of Pride”
We must not see discipline as a form of punishment
What he is doing is perfecting you to make you look like Him
We need to ask God what He’s trying to show us
Confession and humility are the beginning of transformation.
2: Deal with what the Fire Exposes
Hebrews 12:10–11 (NIV)
Isaiah 48:10
“trained by it”, this is saying Gods Discipline is Training for Peace and Righteousness
So when you are ready to throw in the Towel:
God is not just exposing sin; He’s removing it.
Skimming the dross makes us usable, pure, and effective for His purposes.
Refining Requires Precision.
The process demands the perfect temperature —
Remember that God will not Give you more than you can Handle.
The Refiner Knows the Goal: A Pure Reflection.
Ancient silversmiths would say, “I know it’s ready when I can see my reflection in it.”
The Process Is Personal
Refining isn’t mechanical or careless — it’s done with intentional care.
We have an intentional God that knows what you need
Just as the refiner never takes his eyes off the silver, God never takes His eyes off us in our trials.
Titus 2:14
Recognize the Heat – Where is God turning up the temperature?
Release the Dross – Don’t resist—let Him remove what hinders you.
Reflect Christ – Let your life shine with His character and love.
2 Corinthians 3:18
