Sermon Notes 7/19 – 1 Peter 2 – Suffering & Healing
1 PETER 2:21-25
Suffering & Healing
Verse 21 – this one thing – is a calling which is an invitation
Revelation 10:1-11
-The Little Book is the Bible, and we must teach all of the Bible
-The Bible includes harder teachings and easier teachings to grab hold of
-We must receive all Bible teachings – in 1 Peter, it is healing & suffering
Jesus is our example to follow – He suffered and is our Healer
Verses 22-23 – Jesus never retaliated against those who crucified Him. He gave everything over to God the Father
Verses 24-25 – Jesus took our sins upon Himself – the substitutionary atonement
HEALING PRINCIPLES
1. HEALING IS IN THE ATONEMENT, BUT NOT EQUAL TO SALVATION – Verse 24
-Verses 24-25 – the #1 application of these verses is about salvation
-The secondary application is healing
-Salvation is immediate
-Healing happens over time
Stripes – is singular because the back of Jesus looked like one big mess
Straying – astray – means to be completely lost
Returned – is a complete turnaround & repentance
-Healing is included in the atonement
2. GUARD YOUR HEART AND WATCH YOUR MOUTH – 1 Peter 2:22-23
-We must become NOT EVER believers
-Jesus was a NOT EVER Savior
WHEN YOU KICK THE BUCKET, YOU SEE WHAT’S IN IT
– When we go through a trial, we see what we are really like and what is within us – Jesus and His transfiguration
– NEVER will we give up and say negative things – swear/complain about the Lord…..
3. IF THINGS GET WORSE, THAT’S A SIGN THAT A BREAKTHROUGH IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN – Luke 9:37-43
– Things got worse for Jesus – but a breakthrough happened
– Maybe things look worse for us, don’t quit – our breakthrough is right around the corner
4. JESUS CAN HEAL ANYTHING – Exodus 15:26
– The word heal means to make whole, physically/mentally/emotionally and spiritually
– It’s for today and now
