Sermon Notes 7/16 – Fire of God

Fire of God: Exodus 3 & 4

  • What is the Fire of God and why do we need it?

  • 3 Purposes of the Fire of God:

  1. To Draw Us

  2. To Refine Us

  3. To Send Us

 

1. The Fire of God Draws us Into His Presence (Exodus 3:1-6)

  • Moses’ Mission did not start with him deciding one day to free the Israelites, it started with Him encountering the Fire of God

  • A Fire was lit inside Moses that He could not contain!!

  • If you’re going to be on Fire for Jesus, you must encounter Him for yourself.

  • Application: The Fire of God is waiting for you, but will you climb the Mountain to encounter the Fire(Making intentional time for Him, Spending time in the Fire)

2. The Fire of God Refines us into His Image (Exodus 4:1-17)

  • The Fire EXPOSES OUR WEAKNESSES

  • When we encounter God’s presence, He begins burning away everything that doesn’t belong.

  • We cannot fully embrace Christ’s calling until His fire refines the weaknesses within us!!!!

  • “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.  But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap.  He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord.”-Malachi 3:1-3

  • A refiner heats precious metal until the impurities rise to the surface.

  • ENGAGE CHURCH: In the same way, when God moves in our lives:

  • Sin rises to the surface.

  • Pride rises to the surface.

  • Unforgiveness rises to the surface.

  • People-pleasing rises to the surface.

  • Comparison rises to the Surface

  • Goal of Christianity: To become more like Jesus every day!! This can only happen if there is a burning of our weaknesses

  • Application: Where in your life does the Fire of God NEED TO BURN!! (Possible Holy Spirit Interruption)

 

3. The Fire of God Sends us on a Mission (Exodus 3:7-15)

  • “Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people out of Egypt.”-Exodus 3:10

  • The fire Moses experienced on the mountain was meant to reach an entire nation.

  • Moses carried that fire into Egypt.

  • Acts 2

  • The fire fell in the Upper Room, but it didn’t stay in the Upper Room

  • The disciples took the Holy Spirit in them and brought it to the streets

  • We were never meant to keep the Fire in the Walls of the Church!!

  • FIRE SPREADS!! And the Fire of God in us should spread to those around us

  • Application: Where has Jesus called you to Spread His Fire??
