Sermon Notes 7/14 – The Shield of Faith

-The Roman shield was 2’X4′ and shaped like a door.

1. Each Roman soldier had their own Roman shield

         a. we receive a measure of faith @ salvation – Romans 12:1-3

-it is a present or now faith

         b. our faith can grow – Jude 20 and Romans 10:17

Acts 3:1-3 & 4:22 – a man was stuck in place for 40 years.  People would have to carry him to his spot every day

-We need to become unstuck and grow our own faith & not rely on others

          c. Our shield of faith quenches the fiery missiles of the enemy

quenches – means to extinguish & put out –

        -ALL – everyone of the enemies temptations – fiery missiles

           d. wicked one – the vicious, hurtful one

-wants to pull us down with him to the Lake of fire

-John 13;1-2

-soak your shield of faith in water which represents the Word of God – please your faith in Jesus and the Word to extinguish every fiery missile

2. Faith doesn’t have everything figured out – Romans 4:13-20

-this means that we don’t know how the Lord is going to get some things done, but we know He will get them done

-Sarah & Abrahamn waited 25 years for their promised child to be born

-Luke 22:31-32 – Abraham and Sarah kept their faith active and alive

How can we stay in the faith and keep our faith active and alive?

1. WAIT WELL

Declaration:  Faith says, “I don’t know where its coming from.  I don’t know how it’s coming.  I don’t care how it’s coming.  I just know its coming because the Lord says its coming

2. DEVELOP A NO MATTER WHAT ATTITUDE

3. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH FAITH PEOPLE

-Mark 2:1-12/Mark 5:36-42/Jesus & His inner circle of 3 disciples

Why do we need other believers around us?

1. It is easy to grow tired – Galatians 6:9

2. There are some tough times in life where we need other believers to stand with us

-the shields could be locked together during a fierce fight
