Sermon Notes 6/8 – Even If

-The author of First John was John the Apostle – John was an EVEN IF believer

-EVEN IF believers are Christ followers who will follow Jesus no matter what

-Daniel 1:3-4 – the 3 men in the fiery furnace were EVEN IF believers

-EVEN IF Christ Followers are Submissive Believers

The Definition – the word submit means to yield…to line up or arrange under…to get in order…To surrender to the will of another…….It is a military term.

             Why should we submit?

1. To be like Jesus – John 14:31

-Jesus submitted to the Father and was rewarded because of it

2. So we aren’t involved in witchcraft – 1 Samuel 15:23

    Every believer must learn to submit – Hebrews 5:8

-learn means to learn what is involved in obedience and learn the experience of obedience which which includes trials and hardships

      How to learn to submit?

1. Practice Ephesians 5:18-21

Be being filled – this is spending time with Jesus every day

-Becoming submissive is a process

-we can only submit by being controlled by the Holy Spirit

2. Ask your friends if you are submissive

                         SUBMISSIVE STATEMENTS

       #1 – WE ARE TO SUBMIT TO GOOD AND BAD AUTHORITIES – 1 Peter 2:13-18

-We do not obey the person, but the authority in that person

-The Lord places us where He wants us to be to do a work in us – stay in place

-the 3 Jewish men submitted to a heathen harsh ruler of the Babylonian empire

     #2 – BELIEVERS DO NOT HAVE TO SUBMIT TO ANYTHING THAT GOES AGAINST THE WORD OF GOD – Acts 5:12,14,17-18, 25-29,40-42

-Be careful of our responses and reactions to authority – Daniel 3:9
