Sermon Notes 6/5 – Zechariah

ZECHARIAH 8

Verse 14-15 – the Lord of Hosts is speaking and is determined
-the Lord of hosts is determined to discipline us – v14
-the Lord of Hosts is determined to do good to us – v15
Good – means to be kind, generous, worthy and right
-Being Good is who the Lord is and also expresses the benefits He gives
-Being good means He is always doing good things for us
-Declare the goodness of the Lord
vs16-17 – Good things will automatically come to us if we obey His Word
Deut 28:1-2 and Matthew 6:33
vs18-19 – It is not time to fast, but feast – it is a wedding atmosphere
vs20-23 – when the Lord returns bring people to Jerusalem
grasp – means to grab ahold of someone and never let go
-Jesus is coming back – it is a promise….
Zechariah 8:1 – the Word of the Lord – means a pledge and a promise
1. THE PROMISES OF GOD NEVER FAIL – 2 Corinthians 1:20
-they are words from the Lord – you can always count on Him
– some of the Lords’ promises are conditional
2. WE MUST STAND ON THE WORD OF GOD – Zechariah 8:20-23
v23 – grasp – means to grab ahold of something and not let go
-wait on the Lord – wait is an action word
-praise the Lord for the manifestation of His promise that has not arrived yet
The Lord of Hosts gives these promises and means the Lord of the armies
-Lord of Hosts – used in verses 1,3,4, 6(twice), 7,14,19,20,23
-this army includes believers and angels
!. Every believer is in the army – 2 Timothy 2:3-4
-we were enlisted into God’s army at salvation – Joshua 5:13-15
-Jesus is the commander of this army and the Head of the church – Col 1:15-18
2. An army understands its enemy – Eph 6:10-18
-our enemy is the devil and demonic forces
-we have authority over the enemy
-we have spiritual weapons
3. An army, at times, takes on some friendly fire
4. Each person in the army fills a position – 1 Peter 4:10
a. Do something – you will discover your place to serve
b. Stay in place
c. Don’t leave your place until your spot is filled
