Sermon Notes 6/18 – Crossing Over From Promise to Possession
Crossing Over From Promise to Possession
Joshua 1:1-9
Verses 1-2
Moses died and Joshua is the new leader.
- Leaders are chosen by God.
- People must be filled with the Spirit.
Deuteronomy 34:9 (NKJV)
“Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.”
Point #1: To Cross Over Into the Promises
We must be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18
Plerousthe (Greek)
- Present Imperative Passive
- A command
- Ongoing present condition
- You allow Him to fill you
We must be in the habit of listening to the Holy Spirit and His leading.
Point #2: To Cross Over Into the Promises
We must believe God’s Word.
Joshua and Caleb were ready to stand on God’s Word 40 years ago.
The 10 spies were afraid and focused on giants and fear instead of God’s Word.
Verse 6: Be strong and of good courage (3 times)
Verse 7: Be strong and very courageous
Verse 8: The Law is God’s Word!
When we stand on His Word, we will have success and prosperity.
Point #3: To Cross Over, you need to have a different spirit.
Joshua and Caleb had a different spirit.
Numbers 14:24 (NKJV)
“But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.
Go Back In Time to MOSES:
Deuteronomy 1:20-21 (NKJV)
20 “And I said to you, ‘You have come to the mountains of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us.’
21 ‘Look, the Lord your God has set the land before you; go up and possess it, as the Lord God of your fathers has spoken to you; do not fear or be discouraged.’”
