Sermon Notes 6/12 – Zechariah
ZECHARIAH 9
Verses 1-2
Burden – means a declaration or publication of God speaking
-a word from the Lord to us personally from someone should only be a confirmation of what the Lord has already told us and should never direct us
-a word from the Lord will always line up with the Word of God
Hamath & Hadrach refer to Syria
Tyre & Sidon – Lebanon
Against – means to drop a rock on something/to place some weight on someone
Resting Place – the Lord’s discipline rests on the enemies of Israel
The eyes of men:
1. The Jewish people see God’s discipline restoring on its enemies
2. The Jewish peoples’ eyes are on the Lord – their protector
Verses 3-4 -The Lord is against modern day Lebanon
Verses 5-8 – NO MORE will the Lord allow Israels’ enemies to hurt Israel
v8 – The Lord will camp around Israel and fight for Israel
verse 9 – This is the first coming of Jesus Christ
Rejoice daughter of zion – believers rejoice because Jesus has been born
Shout daughters of Jerusalem – Jewish unbelievers shout because they are being saved
Your King is coming – Jesus is a King
***A DESCRIPTION OF JESUS CHRIST
1. Just – means to be right – surrender
2. Clothed with salvation – refers to salvation being the priority
3. Lowly – speaks to humility and to always point to Him
verse 10 – this verse refers to the second coming of Jesus Christ
***PEACE will come and war will end
Sea to Sea – peace will be everywhere
verse 11 – Jesus made a blood covenant with humanity
***Because of the Blood of Jesus – The Lord will set prisoners free
-the waterless pit – is a dry deep well that prisoners were thrown into
-we do not have to be prisoners
-Jesus set us free through the cross and resurrection
-Stay free by spending time with Jesus
-Walk in your freedom
verse 12 – MAKE A DECISION ——- return to the stronghold who is Jesus
Because of the blood of Jesus, we will receive double blessings – verse 12.
It means we will receive much much more than we have…….
verse 13 – Because of the blood of Jesus we are unified – Acts 1:14 and 2
*Judah and Ephraim (two tribes of Israel) were fighting, but now unified together to fight their enemies
-young people will help to fight the enemies of Israel
verse 14 – the Lord Himself will fight for His children
—a whirlwind – is like a hurricane
—seen over them – refers to the Lord’s presence and power
—arrow like lightning – shows the swift intervention of the Lord
—blow the trumpet – this is a call to battle
***When anyone fights against Israel, you are also fighting against the Lord…
verse 15 – slingstones – refers to David and Goliath and how large and tough our enemies can be
-magnify the Lord and not the issue – we have a big God whjo is bigger than any problem
drink and roar – this refers to great joy and celebration as Israels’ enemies are defeated
sacrificial basins – like the blood flows into a basin, Israel will be overflowing with energy and dedication to defeat their enemies
verse 16 – When Jesus returns, His blood will save Israel
-Jesus will protect Israel like an expensive piece of jewelry
Banner – Israel will be lifted up as the head of all nations when Jesus returns
verse 17 – The Lord does all of this because He is good……..
grain – there will be abundance
new wine – there will be great joy and gladness
***Everything will change when Jesus returns…….
