Sermon Notes 5/31 – 1 Peter – Called
1 Peter – Called
The word called is used 5 times in 1 Peter
1:15, 2:21, 3:9, 5:10 & 2:9
-The word CALLED means to personally choose someone for an assignment/ to select/to call out
-Called refers to the Lord calling us out of our current situation by our name and placing us
into something special that brings about change
THE LORD IS CALLING US OUT OF DARKNESS AND INTO HIS MARVELOUS LIGHT
Colossians 1:12-13 –
Delivered – means to rescue and draw out
Power – is domination and tyranny/authority
Conveyed – means to transfer/transport/remove from one place to another
1 Peter 2:9
Darkness – this is spiritual darkness
Out of – means a permanent exit
QUESTION: Why did the Lord call us out of darkness and place us into His light?
1. So we could receive our new identity, which is in Jesus Christ – 1 Peter 2:9
2. So we could discover our purpose
-To show forth the praises of Jesus – proclaim…declare – announce, to tell, to advertise, celebrate Jesus
-This is evangelism – 2 Timothy 4:5
-We have been dispatched by the lord to earth from our heavenly home to tell people about Jesus
-Incarnation Evangelism – God came to earth in the form of man, Jesus Christ, to be among people to bring them salvation.
We are to do the same thing…
What happens when we evangelize? THE ENEMY ATTACKS
What should we do when the Enemy attacks?
1. ADVANCE IN ADVERSITY – Phil 3:12-14
-when things are good – Advance
-when things are bad – Advance
-Continue to move forward
-We may be under attack, but we are also under the Blood!!!
2. NEVER BELIEVE THE LIES OF THE ENEMY – John 8:44
LIE #1 – Keep your faith private – this is a personal choice
LIE #2 – The enemy makes people think they have plenty of time before they die to consider their eternal resting place
-Luke 13:1-5 & 2 Corinthians 6:2
