Verse 14 – Angel – is a human or angelic messenger.  Angel means messenger

church – means a called-out and called forth

People with a specific assignment

People are the church

The church has a boss – Col 1:15-18

Laodicea – means the rights and rule of the people

-It refers to people only, and being without the Lord and His word

1. The Amen – Jesus is THE AMEN

-He is always right…it’s a fact…It is final…What the Lord & His word say is final

2. The Faithful and True Witness – verse 14

-THE is used again just as for the word AMEN

Witness – refers to being a martyr

-refers to suffering

Faithful – means reliable…totally trustworthy

True – is real and genuine/authentic

3. The Beginning of the Creation of God – verse 14

This means that Jesus is the origin or source of all creation.

He created all things – Colossians 1:15-18 & Genesis 1:1

Because of Creation – people can be saved… Romans 1:20

Verses 15-16 – Know – means to observe personally…Jesus sees everything

-Jesus is aware of the condition of the body of Christ – LUKEWARM

Jesus would rather have the church be Cold or Hot

Cold – means freezing cold

Hot – means boiling hot

Cold – don’t care at all about Christianity/not into it/still saved

Hot – fervent and on fire

Lukewarm – is a complacent…comfortable place

-It is one of the hardest spiritual conditions to come out of

    LUKEWARMNESS

1.  Lukewarmness can be defeated by being filled with the Holy Spirit – Ephesians 5:18

-We need each other to stay filled up

2. Lukewarmness is a demonic spirit in the last days

3. Lukewarmness does not erase the Love Jesus has for you

-vomit – the lukewarm condition sickens Jesus

Verse 17 – Materialism was the church’s downfall

need of nothing – means to absolutely have no need of anything at all

wretched – to be negatively affected – a calloused condition

miserable – in need of pity

poor – the poorest condition you can ever be in

blind – having no eyes or sight at all

The Laodicean church saw themselves as being okay

THE SOLUTION

Verse 18 – The Lord said to let Him give them some counsel

counsel – means advice

-purchase from me some gold from the fire – this is the purification process

-anoint your eyes with eyesalve – the church needs some deliverance from being blind – they need His anointing and presence

verse 19 – Repent and be zealous – be on fire and be passionate

verse 20 – allow Jesus to enter into the church

verse 21 – Overcomes – these are born-again believers who will rule with Jesus after He returns.

The Lukewarm will end up sitting with Jesus & be restored to Him
