THE HOLY SPIRIT STOPS US
***Acts 14:19-28 – The Holy Spirit tells Paul to Go – Move Forward
***Acts 16:5-12 – The Holy Spirit Stops Paul from going to Asia
1. THE HOLY SPIRIT STOPS US THROUGH OUR INSTRUCTION MANUAL WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD – THE BIBLE
***2 Timothy 4:1-3
v1- a charge – a command for Timothy to follow from Paul
-before God – in the presence of the Lord
-they will be judged for following or not following this charge
THE CHARGE: Preach The Word – this means to be a town crier in the public square
*convince – conviction to the point of confession
*rebuke – rebuke sin and not people
*exhort – to encourage and give hope
Two Points About The Word Of God
1. The Breath of the Holy Spirit – 2 Tim 3:16 & 2 Peter 1:20-21
2. Illumination – John 14:26
(1.) THE BREATH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
***2 Timothy 3:16 – all scriptures are God breathed and are helpful & useful
—for doctrine – right teaching
—reproof – to bring a person to conviction
—correction – to set a person right – get them on the right path
—to instruct on having good morals
***2 Peter 1:20-21
verse 20 – keep all scriptures in context
verse 21 – man had nothing to do with writing the Bible – all words are God breathed
(2.) THE ILLUMINATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT – John 14:26
-illumination means our minds become spiritually enlightened – the Holy Spirit is trying to stop some of our wrong behavior and stop us from getting on the wrong path
2. THE HOLY SPIRIT STOPS US BY SPEAKING DIRECTLY TO US – Revelation 3:6
(1.) The Holy Spirit Speaks
a. The Holy Spirit speaking to us is a fact
b. around 15 times in the NT it says He who has an ear let him hear what the Spirit is saying
c. The Holy Spirit speaks because He is a person – John 14:15-18 & 16:12-15
d. The Holy Spirit is God – Acts 5:1-5
John 14:16-18 – the word another means another of the same kind
e. Clear out some of the noise in our lives so we can hear the Holy Spirit speaking
(2.) We Know The Voice of the Holy Spirit Because of the Relationship we have with Him – John 14:16-18
—the Holy Spirit is a person and we can get to know HIm
—the Holy Spirit confirms things to us and through us
Confirm – means to provide proof that something is true/to ratify & strengthen
a. The Holy Spirit confirms things through us
-this is when we give someone a Word from the Lord and it confirms what the Lord has been showing them
b. The Holy Spirit confirms things to us
-the Holy Spirit speaks directly to us about things in our life – Romans 8:16-17
-through others
-These confirmations line up with the Bible…do not direct our lives…agree with godly counsel…and peace rules and reigns in our hearts and lives…
