Sermon Notes 4/18 – Mark 2

                                     Chapter Two

verse 4 – when they had broken through

                    Breakthrough means:

       to smash and obstacle to make progress

       to penetrate e=nemy territory

       to remove anything that restricts a flow

Who gives the breakthrough?  The breaker who is Jesus Christ – Micah 2:13

Roof – the 4 men dug a hole in the roof and created an opening from floor into the sky

                  -this represents prayer and an open heaven

                  -we need a breakthrough in our nation.  There are 5 elements that are needed for there to be an outpouring of the Holy Spirit

       What can we learn about prayer?

1.) PRAYER IS A PRIVILEDGE – Hebrews 4:16 and Ephesians 2:18

-we get to know the Lord better

-the Lord wants to spend time with us

           a. this privilege includes personal and prayer gatherings

Personal Prayer – is our every day time with the Lord – Psalm 90:1-2

Prayer Gatherings

Acts 3:1…Lev 26:1-13…Matthew 18:18-19

-in prayer gatherings everyone needs to be praying – all 4 men were praying

           b. this privilege includes work – Phil 2:12-14

—prayer is works and works – Psalm 34:4 & 1 John 5:14-15

2.) PRAYER IS BELIEVING – Mark 1:14-15/9:23-24/11:22-25

-to receive we must believe

a. Believe when things take time – Gal 6:9

b. Believe no matter what you see – 2 Cor 5:7

c. Believe because all things are possible – Luke 1:37

PRAYER MUST BE CONTINUAL  – Luke 11:5-11 and Genesis 32:24-30

-the 4 men kept digging until they received a breakthrough

-41 is coming…the #40 is the number for trials, but on the next day or year  which is  #41 a breakthrough happens…………

-So persevere and keep on praying because your breakthrough is coming…
