Sermon Notes 4/17 – Zechariah 5

Visions – Acts 2:1-21

***Visions will happen in the last days

***People are in their right mind and alert and awake

***Visions are from the Lord and can be counterfeited – must go along with the Word

***Visiions can be tested – 1 John 4:1

***If visions are from the Lord, they stay with you

***Visions do not direct people – Romans 8:14

-scroll – it is made out of paper or a roll of parchment

flying – means a continuous action of floating like a banner for everyone to see

            The FLYING SCROLL represents the Word of God

1. The Word of God came from God – verse 1 & 2 Peter 1:20-21

-the scroll came from the Lord to Zechariah

-God breathed

2. The flying scroll was large – verse 2

-It refers to 2 things:

       1. it is large because it is for everyone

       2. it is large which reveals the importance of the Word of God

3. We need both sides of the Word of God – verse 3

-we need all of the Word

-the Word of God is all for today

4. The Word of God deals with every issue – vs3-4

-flying – the Word is always moving

                                  ZECHARIAH 5:5-11

Vision #7 – THE VISION OF THE WOMAN IN A BASKET

v5 – angel – means messenger – he gives Zechariah a command to look up

v6 – basket – a measuring device – to measure all kinds of grain

-it was the largest measuring device of the day

-the basket is spreading something

-worldliness and sin is spreading

-their eyes are on the basket

verses 7-8 –  there is a lead cover which presses sin down

-dont become comfortable with your sin

-the lid represents the church being a restraining force to hold back sin

-2 Thessalonians 2:1-12

v6  – restraining – means to hold something back

v7 – a spirit of lawlessness is operating now – the church is removed

v8 – evil is completely unleashed after the church leaves earth

Zechariah 5:9  – 2 women come in the wind

-storks are unclean animals in the OT which represents sin and evil

-another wave of sin is getting ready to move in  – in the Middle East

    ***Shinar is Babylon which today is Iraq, Iran and Terrorist nations
