Sermon Notes 3/30 – Authority to Influence
Authority to Influence
1 Peter 2:11-12
Sojourners: Refer to foreigners, strangers, or temporary residents
Pilgrim: Refer to the same as Sojourners but emphasizes traveling toward a sacred destination (journey of faith)
We are just Pilgrims, this world is our temporary home, our stopping point before eternity.
“influencers” as people who shape opinions, guide decisions, and inspire action
We have the ability to make the most of our time on earth…
Have you decided to be influenced or an Influencer?
Jesus wants us to be influencers…. He said GO and make disciples… This is not an option, this is a command for all believers….
Be a person that someone would want to Follow ( People were attracted to Jesus )
Our influence as Christians is not valid based on the number of followers but the quality of relationships
Philippians 4:4-9
1. Influence by your Joy (Philippians 4:4)
As influencers, your joy should be a constant testimony of your trust in God.
Your joy isn’t based on circumstances—it’s rooted in your relationship with Christ.
Joy reveals who or what we put our faith and trust in. It shows our true faith in Christ
True Joy is only possible by Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit goes deeper, transforming hearts and making us more like Christ.
2. Influence by your Gentle Strength (Philippians 4:5)
“Let your gentleness be evident to all.”
The Holy Spirit Empowers & Gives Boldness
World Influencers use their platforms to empower people to take action. In the Same way The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live boldly for Christ.
When he states to let your gentleness be known….. He means that we must make it evident in all we do.
You can have a Bold Gentleness
Unlike influencers who seek popularity, the Holy Spirit gives courage to stand for truth, even when it’s unpopular.
3. Influence with a Mindset of Peace and Stability
A great leader doesn’t lead out of fear, worry, or pressure—They lead with confidence in God’s peace.
The word petition (translated from the Greek) refers to a specific, earnest request or supplication made to God.
Petition often carries a sense of deep dependence and humility, recognizing that we need God’s help in a particular area.
Petition sets us up for greater influence
- It is a humble request – A petition acknowledges that we cannot do it on our own and that we need God’s intervention. (Humility is the best way )
- It is ongoing – Petitioning God isn’t a one-time action but a continual practice of surrender and trust. (Puts things into perspective every day)
- It is paired with thanksgiving – We are to bring our petitions with gratitude, showing faith that God hears and answers in His perfect way. ( will change our Perspective)
Lead with a Focused and Disciplined Mind (Philippians 4:8)
Direct your focus toward truth, righteousness, and all that is praiseworthy. Share in those things.
John 16:13 – “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come.
