Sermon Notes 3/23 – Tests

                                   1 John 4:1

(1.) THE DOCTRINE TEST

-Matthew 16:18 – upon this rock I will build my church

verse 1 – beloved – means those who the Lord loves

Test – check everything out to make sure it lines up with the Word – to give approval

-we are not to believe every spirit – believe the Lord and His Word

-the Jesus test – who is Jesus? – 1 John 4:2-3

vs2-3 The Incarnation – Jesus Christ is God

2 Corinthians 11:3-4,13-15 – another Jesus, gospel and spirit

Confess that Jesus Christ is God publicly

            JESUS BELIEVED IN DIVINE DOCTRINE AND DIRTY FEET

PROPITIATION – only Jesus satisfies the standard & requirement to be our Savior

Jesus is the only one who satisfies

Jesus is enough

(2.) THE VOICE TEST – 1 John 2:27 & 4:4-6

                   a. The voice of the Holy Spirit passes the test of time

-there are many many voices in the culture today

              A HUGE QUESTION BY A HUGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE

-How do we know if the voice we are hearing is the voice of the Lord, flesh or enemy

-To know its the voice of God, wait for a period of time and over a period of time the voice of the Lord will increase and the voice of the flesh and enemy will decrease

                      b. When you don’t hear from the Holy Spirit, you are hearing from the Holy Spirit – Psalm 62:5

-when the Holy Spirit wants to change something in your life, He will let you know

                     c. The Voice of the Holy Spirit always lines up with the Bible – Gal 1:6-9

***The voice of the Holy Spirit never contradicts, opposes or goes against the Bible

(3.) THE LOVE TEST – 1 John 4:4:7-11, 19-21 & 1 John 3:13-16

John 13:34-35 – people will know we are believers because of our love
