Sermon Notes 2/27 – The Lake Mark 6

THE LAKE

                                       Mark 6:45-53 (v48)
-the lake is the Sea of Galilee
-Luke 5:1-3 – the Sea of Galilee is called the Lake of Gennesaret
-the Lake was the place of much of the ministry of Jesus Christ
-v48 – “The winds were against the disciples” – this refers to the trials, tragedies and difficult times we all go through as believers here on earth
(1.) NO BELIEVER IS EXEMPT FROM EXPERIENCING A WINDY DAY – v48
-Jesus never guaranteed us a trouble free Christian life – Acts 14:21-22
-many believers have an unrealistic view of Christianity – that our lives will be lived on one smooth road, but we will face strong winds and trials in our lives
-Since we know we will suffer and go through trials, we must have this attitude:
***THERE IS NO TURNING BACK.  WE WILL FOLLOW JESUS NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS AND HOW HARD LIFE BECOMES***
                                          BURN THE SHIPS
(2.) HOLD ON AND NEVER LET GO – 2 Timothy 1:13
Hold fast – means to seize and not let go…possess…hold down and digest
              DECISION
-Paul made a decision that He would follow Jesus no matter what – 2 Cor 11:22-28
              DEPOSIT
=The Holy Spirit deposited the Word in our hearts
-committed – means to make a deposit
-the Holy Spirit helps us – He is our Helper – John 14:16-18
***As we hold fast to the Word of God, the enemy wants us to reliquish our hold on the Word by lieing to us (John 8:44)…
-We must withdraw from the Word of God that has been deposited in us
***Isaiah 43:1-3
v1 – the Lord speaks here as our Creator
Fear not – this is a command from the Lord to all believers
Redeemed – the Lord reminds us what He brought us out of
PROMISE – the Lord gives us a PROMISE…….Prov 10:25 & 2 Corinthians 1:20
-the promises of God give us certainty in an uncertain world
Mark 6:45 – The Lord gave the disciples a promise that they would make it to the other side – what a ride it was to get there…
     a. Promises work on the shore and in the middle of the Lake when its storming
     b. Promises are certain and 100% guaranteed to work
     c. The wind does not cancel out the Promises and Word of God
