Sermon Notes 12/11 – Zechariah 12-13

Zechariah Chapters 12-14 are mainly about the return of Jesus Christ

Announcement – of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit – Zechariah 12:10

1. The Lord said He will pour out His Spirit

2. This is one of the signs of the last days

3. Nothing can stop the outpouring

4. An outpouring of the Spirit is really needed

5. The Availability of the outpouring

6. The Outpouring produces salvation

Included in the Holy Spirit is a spirit of grace and supplication

spirit of grace – having the favor of the Lord

Spirit of supplication – it is a personal prayer – here Israel prayed to be saved

vs11-14 – great mourning in Israel takes place – a time of repentance

v10b – they will LOOK  – turn away from idols to Jesus – the pierced one

                                           CHAPTER 13

verse 1 – In That Day – the day before the return of Jesus

fountain – this represents the blood of Jesus – a continual flow

The blood of Jesus is for everyone

        House of David – are government leaders and higher-ups in society

        The Inhabitants – the common citizens of Israel

1 John 1:9 – John refers to the same fountain here

verse 2 – Cleansing from sin leads to separation from sin – vs2-6

                 How do we separate ourselves from sin?

1. Through the Word of God – 2 Cor 6:14-18

2. Through the Holy Spirit – 1 Corinthians 2:12-13

-the Holy Spirit speaks to us

verse 6 – There is true and right doctrine

-This refers to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ

THIS VERSE REFERS TO 3 THINGS:

1. Being Offended

-The worst wound comes from someone you are close to

2. Being on Time

-The Lord is always on time – Romans 5:6-11 and Galatians 6:9

3. Persecution – Acts 14:22

-Believers will be persecuted for their faith

Verse 7 – My Companion – means to be My equal  – Jesus Christ is God

Strike the shepherd – this refers to the death of Jesus Christ

Sheep will scatter – Israel is scattered to the nations of the world by Babylon

Turn My Hand – The Lord will deal with Israel during the tribulation

-little ones – refers to Israel being humbled and scattered ito little groups of people

verse 8 – all the land – this is Israel

Two-thirds of the Jewish people die in war

One-third of Israel lives and enters into the millennial kingdom

verse 9 – the fire refers to the tribulation period

-The Lord will bring Israel and all of us through the fire

call on the Lord – this is Israel calling to the Lord to save them – Acts 2:21
