Sermon Notes 12/1 – Blessings in Servanthood

Isaiah 9:6

  • Wonderful counselor, (extraordinary wisdom)
  • Everlasting Father ( His kingdom would never end )
  • Prince of Peace, ( He will bring peace, the type that surpasses all understanding…not war)
  • Mighty God, Jesus is God….
There was a messianic expectation

Jesus was much different than expected
His willingness to suffer would contrast to the expectation of a king that would slay His enemy.
His willingness to serve was like no one expected

Luke 2: 4-6

What was Jesus trying to show us?
  • His birth encompassed humility
  • His birth shows of no reputation
  • His birth shows purpose
He is a servant King
He was showing us that true strength and power comes from Serving

1. Servanthood Aligns us with Gods purpose

Mark 10:45

Becoming great in the Kingdom of God is being a servant

Jesus came to serve

The Word servant in the Greek means Slave
We are to be a slave to all
Deeper Meaning: a slave with no rights doing his masters bidding.
When we take on a servant role we are in a position to do what God wants (Our masters bidding)
We are a bond servants to Christ therefore we are in the will of the Lord

You have more power as a slave….
Jesus kept saying not my will father but yours… He was a slave for us.

He gave his life as a ransom
Ransom: In the Greek, meaning to make payment for freedom
To take a slave out of Slavery

We actually experience true freedom when we are a bond servant for Christ.

Servanthood Brings Clarity of Gods Direction for us
When we serve, we are open to allowing the Lord to use the giftings that have been given to us
When we are open to be used by God, He: Places us in the right place and time to be used
Gives us people for us to influence ( Will increase our territory)
Taking our focus off ourself
Matthew 23:11-12

Acts 20: 35 Luke wrote on Paul’s words……
“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”

The greatest is the Servant

Servanthood develops Humility

Jesus encompassed Humility……

Humility is the key to growing Spiritually,
We start to realize that life is not all about us
What makes a good leader is not looking like one
What makes a good leader is how you serve in humility

Growing spiritually is growing close to the Lord, you learn His heart for others

Serving others Breaks Pride

When we operate through the power of the Holy Spirit, something supernatural happens in us

1 Peter 5:6
  1. Servanthood brings Everlasting Rewards
Rewards by man never will come close to the rewards that Jesus brings
Matthew 25:21

We are all given the opportunity

Everyone is given people in their life to serve
Our influence and Blessings will increase
  • God will supernaturally increase your blessings ( Like a spiritual bank account)
  • This is absolutely nothing you can do on your own.
  • Gods blessings are much better than Human ( Gods have eternal value)
We will enter into The Joy Of the Lord
