John16:13
—The Holy Spirit points to Jesus – John 16:13
—The Holy Spirit shows us the difference between deception and truth
—Absolute truth is found today in Jesus and the Bible
-The Holy Spirit is a Spirit of truth – John 16:13…15:26 & 14:17
Truth – being sure/stable/reliable/faithful/
The 9 Spirituals
1 Corinthians 12:8-11
(1.) The Holy Spirit distributes the 9 spirituals – 1 Cor 12:11
(2.) We are to desire the 9 spirituals – 1 Cor 14:1
desire – to long for…have a warm feeling for
-desire Jesus first and then everything He has for us – Psalm 27:8
-the spirituals are for today – desire more from God
-1 Thess 5:20 – do not extinguish the move of the Holy Spirit
(3.) The 9 Spirituals operate to bring people to Jesus – Matthew 28:18-20
-the spirituals are for outside of the church except the utterance gifts
-the spirituals are all about the great commission
-Luke 19:10 & Luke 5:27-32 ——- the mission of the Lord and the church
(4.) The 9 Spirituals always build up and edify – 1 Corinthians 14:1-3
-the gifts:
edify – build up and construct
exhort – means to admonish and strengthen
comfort – means compassion, kindness & gentleness
The Gift Of Discernment of Spirits
Definition – discernment of spirits is the supernatural ability to see the presence of activity of a spirit whether good or bad and demonic or human. It allows us to see into the spirit & invisible world…….
1. The gift of discernment of spirits will operate in the demonic area – Matt 16:21-23 & Acts 16:16-18
-is something flesh or demonic – Galatians 5:16-23
-Demonic activity is also called the occult – Dt 18:9-14
-give no place to the devil – Eph 4:27
***Deuteronomy 18:9-14
1. one who walks through the fire – this is child sacrifice
2. diviner & soothsayer – the giving of future information
3. charmer & enchanter – putting people under a spell
4. witch or sorcerer – magic formulas and incantations
5. medium – calling on demons
6. a spiritist or wizard – psychic
7. necromancer – one who consults with the dead
-believers can never be demon possessed – they can be oppressed
