Sermon Notes 10/26 – The Love of God – 1 John
1 John 5:14-15 and 1 John 3:1-5
1. John 3:1 is a statement that went against the grain
-John introduces a new level of love to the culture – Agape Love
-spirit – this is the agape love of the Lord that we receive at salvation
—only the spirit part of us is saved
—agape is God’s love
-soul – this is our mind, emotions, and intellect
—is filial love – friendship love
-body – is eros love – a sexual love
-is where the flesh abides
-God’s love is an unconditional love – not earned or deserved or worked for
-God’s love is permanent – The Lord will never change His mind about loving us
2. 1 John 3:1 is a Statement about giving
-bestow – means to give lavishly…abundantly
-it is a SO LOVE – John 3:16
-God’s love was given to us at salvation
-God’s love changes us
-The Lord changes our Identity – 1 John 3:1-2 – He calls us His children
HOW CAN WE LIVE IN VICTORY DURING THIS IDENTITY CRISIS
(1.) Understand that our Identity is only in Jesus Christ
-say who the Lord says you are – 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
-justified – the Lord looks at us just as if we have never sinned
-see yourself through the eyes of the Lord
-The enemy will fight you about your identity
Matthew 4:1-11 – the enemy battled Jesus concerning His identity
1. We can learn that the identity crisis is from the enemy
2. Speak life, victory, and the Word out loud – 2 Cor 5:17-6:4
(2.) Speak life, victory, and the Word OUTLOUD – 2 Cor 5:17-6:4
(3.) Understand that you can never lose your identity
-Your identity is permanent
-Do not be led by feelings
-Remember that your issues and identity flow along together
-always use a comma and not a period……
