REVELATION Chapter One

Verse 8 – I Am – means Jesus Christ is God – John 8:58-59
Alpha & Omega – means He has always been and always will be
Almighty – means the Lord can do anything
Verse 9 – Tribulation – means heavy pressure/affliction/anguish/a crushing situation
Patmos – represents trials, pressure, and trouble
John would not worship Domitian, the Roman emperor – emperor worship
-There is purpose in pain

Two Things To Do When Tribulation Comes

(1.) DEVELOP THE PATIENCE OF JESUS CHRIST – Verse 10
-Patience…Perseverance…Endurance – Means to continue
-Jesus is our example to follow concerning tribulation – Hebrews 12:1-4
(2.) LISTEN TO THE LOUD VOICE – Verses 10-12
– This is the voice of Jesus
– Saying – Verses 11 – Means to continually say
– Verse 12 – Turns means to turn 180 degrees
Verses 12-13 – 7 Lampstands – Candlesticks
-These are churches
-Represents the history of the church – Revelation 1:20
-The Lord is in the middle of the church
-Focus On Jesus
A DESCRIPTION OF JESUS IN REVELATION 1:12-17
Verse 13 – Jesus is our High Priest
-The garment came down to His feet, but He is barefoot
-Jesus makes intercession for the church – John 17 – Unity/be one
Jesus wore a golden band around his chest
-Gold represents great power—provision and glory
-No one is more powerful than Jesus Christ
Verse 14 – 2 More characteristics of Jesus
1. His head and hair are white as snow
2. His eyes are like a flame of fire
1. White as snow – speaks of the shiny brilliance of God’s glory on Jesus
Rev 1:17 – John’s reaction to seeing the vision of Jesus Christ
2. Fire – Jesus can see right through you and inside of you – brings purity to us
Verses 15-16 – Two More Characteristics of Jesus Christ
1. His feet are like Bronze -this refers to the judgment of God
2. His Voice – this booming voice is for pastors
v16 – the stars are pastors – Revelation 1:20
-Had in His right hand – means to have a firm grip – the Lord will deal with pastors
Verse 16 – 2 More Characteristics of Jesus Christ
1. The Lord’s Mouth
2. The Lord’s Countenance
1. A Sharp two edged sword
– This is the Word of God
– Pastors need to share the Word of God
– Jesus speaks the Word of God
2. Countenance
– Looking at Jesus is like looking at the sun directly
– John crumbles like a dead man
