Sermon Note 1/29 – Ephesians
Ephesians 1:7-10
***WE ARE REDEEMED IN CHRIST
v7 – IN HIM – this refers to being in Christ
Redeemed – means to buy back…to purchase by the payment of a price
We are REDEEMED by the blood of Jesus – 1 Peter 1:18-19
REDEMPTION is only through Jesus Christ
We can know we are saved – 1 John 5:13
The Lord has chosen everyone to be saved – Ephesians 1:4
Chosen – means to be selected…called out…handpicked
One blessing of Redemption is we are forgiven….
The word forgiven jeans to lift off and send away – our sins, guilt, shame and condemnation are lifted off and sent away
FORGIVENESS IS POSITIONAL & PERSISTENT
Positional – v7 – this is who we are in Jesus Christ – WE ARE FORGIVEN
Persistent – this is being forgiven of our sins after we are saved. The Lord continually forgives us
Sinning is an IF and not a WHEN – 1 John 2:1-2
1 JOHN 1:9
verse 1 – we – refers to all believers because all believers have sinned
-do not try to hide your sins – Proverbs 28:13-14
If We Sin – we Confess
Confess refers to 2 points:
1. We must admit we have sinned and agree with the Lord that what we have done is sin
2. Confession includes repentance – change your mind that you have sinned and need forgiveness
What will the Lord do when we confess our sins:
1. The Lord will forgive us – Psalm 103:1-3,12
-sins is plural which means any sin we commit
2. The Lord will cleanse us – means to set us free…make us pure…to be found innocent
Isaiah 1:18 – we will clean and as white as snow
-Quit reconfessing
REMEMBER TWO POINTS:
1. THE LORD IS FAITHFUL AND JUST – He is dependable/can be counted on/
He always makes the right decisions
2. THE LORD NEVER HOLDS OUR SINS AGAINST US
-He remembers them because He knows everything, but the Lord never holds our sins against us
