The Laodicean Church

Revelation 3:14-22

v14 – angel – means messenger and is the pastor of the church

       – church – means a called out group of people

       – Laodicea – means just people (without God)

-this is the present church age we live in – 1900 – present

-the church must do more than attempt to get people into a building

                A DESCRIPTION OF JESUS CHRIST  – V14

1. Amen – means it is true, right and dependable…It is a fact…

-the devil is a liar – John 8:44

2. Faithful & True Witness

-this refers to being faithful to death – Hebrews 12:1-3

3. The Beginning of the Creation of God – Col 1:15-18

-this means Jesus is the origin or the source of all creation

verse 15 – You are neither hot or cold…

NOT COLD

-Means cold to the point of freezing

-you are not unsaved (freezing)

NOT HOT

-Means hot to the boiling point

-you are not saved to the point of being on fire for Jesus

*The church was listless and indifferent*

I could wish you were cold

-if you were not saved, at least you would be open to hear the gospel

I could wish you were hot

-If you were saved & on fire for Jesus, you would be serving and excited

\verse 16 – Lukewarm – means comfortable…complacent…warm…lack spiritual hunger

Vomit – being lukewarm makes the Lord sick because He created us to have a vibrant relationship and fellowship time with HIm

                 3 MAIN CAUSES OF LUKEWARMNESS

1.  A DEMONIC SPIRIT OF THE CHURCH AGE – 1 Peter 5:8-9

2. A LACK OF DISCIPLINE – 2 Timothy 1:7

3. THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD –

-the cycle of Israel

-Follow the Lord

-Were blessed

-Fell Away from the lord

-Chastised by the lord

-Repent

-Follow the Lord again

verse 17 – the Laodicean church had everything they wanted

               – they were blind to their spiritual condition

*Their true spiritual condition

-wretched & miserable – they were missing the heart of the Lord

-poor – they had no need of the Lord – spiritually poor

-blind – they were deceived

-naked – not standing up for righteousness

verse 18 – I Counsel – the Lord is compelling the church to get back to Him

Buy from Me – means to pursue the Lord

You need My gold – you need the Lords strength and faith which is pure

white clothes – the church needs to live for Jesus and make a difference where they live

Eye Salve – their eyes need to be open by the anointing of the Holy Spirit

verse 19 – the Lord really loves us – Rom 8:35-39

-He repoves and convicts us

-He disciplines us

verse 20 – this is Jesus standing at the door of the church and wanting to come in

verser 21 – overcomes – means the conquering one

-refers to all born again believers

verse 22 – Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit
