REVELATION 11
The Two Witnesses

vs1-6 – THE MINISTRY OF THE TWO WITNESSES

vs1-2 – this refers to the temple being built in Jerusalem

v1 -a reed like a measuring rod – this refers to a bamboo like cane. It was used for two main reasons:
1. for correction – national and personal
2. for measuring – the spirituality if Israel and its people

v2 – this is the court of the gentiles that was a part of the Jewish temple. This represents the world system that we are to separate from…

leave it out – means to reject as polluted…throw it out
-anything not in the Word of God, get rid of it

reject those who would try to destroy Israel – the antichrist is an example here

v3 – Two Witnesses
-witnesses primarily do 2 things:
***Witnesses SEE ***Witnesses TALK

prophecy – means to speak an inspired message of redemption and repentance only through Jesus Christ

sackcloth – speaks of repentance

v4 – olive trees – we get oil from the trees – this represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit

lampstands – represents bringing light into the darkness of the culture

v5 – supernatural…miraculous power — Jeremiah 5:14

v6 – the 2 witnesses have power to do 3 things
1. shut the sky – like Elijah in James 5:17-18
2. turn the water into blood – like during the time of Moses
3. strike the earth with plagues – like Moses & the ten plagues of Egypt

vs 7-10 – THE MARTYRDOM OF THE TWO WITNESSES
-they are supernaturally protected
-the antichrist orders the 2 witnesses to be publicly executed

v8 – the great city of Jerusalem
-it will be spiritually and morally corrupt

sodom represents immorality
egypt represents the world system

v9 – their bodies lie in the street for 3 and a half days
-the entire world sees this happening

v10 – a celebration occurs when the 2 witnesses are dead

vs11-13 – THE MOVING UP OF THE 2 WITNESSES
v11 – it’s resurrection time

-people are frightened when they see this occur

v12 – the 2 witnesses ascend to heaven

v13 – a great earthquake takes place
-one tenth of Jerusalem is destroyed
-7,000 people die
-people still do not repent

vs14-19 – THE 7th TRUMPET JUDGMENT
v14 – this is the last Woe
-woe is a word of warning

v15 – It is an announcement of victory

vs16-18 – it’s an announcement of praise
elders – represents all born again believers from the OT & NT

almighty – mans the powerful one

v18 – the nations were angry
-the wrath of God comes against this anger

-the dead – the good JSof Christ
– the bad – judgment for rejecting jesus

v19 – the temple and ark of the covenant represents the presence of God
