Chapters 8-9
verses 1-2 – the 7 seals judgments are about to end and the trumpet judgments begin
—there is silence in heaven – this is calm before the trumpet judgments start
—out of the 7th seal comes the trumpet judgments
verses 3-4 – this is a picture of the altar of incense that refers to prayer
-the altar of incense was in the Tabernacle of Moses
-it was continually burning
-live coals were on the altar burning the incenses – speaks of fiery prayers
verse 4 – the prayers of God’s people are heard and answered
verses 5-6 – judgment comes down on the earth
v7 – THE FIRST TRUMPET
trumpets 1-4 – these are judgments that affect nature – supernatural judgments
-grass, trees and pasture lands devastated
vs8-9 – THE SECOND TRUMPET
-this could be a meteorite that falls into the water
-one third of salt water turns into blood
-one third of marine life dies
-one third of all ships are destroyed
vs10-11 – TRUMPET #3
a great star – falls from heaven
-this star affects water sources inland
v11 – the star is wormwood which means bitter
-one third of all rivers and water sources become bitter and people die
v12 – TRUMPET #4 – Revelation 8:12
-this trumpet affects the earths’ luminaries – stars, moon & sun
-one third of the light produced by these bodies will be extinguished
-this trumpet affects the entire world
v13 – a remarkable messenger proclaims WOE to the world
WOE – is a sign of warning & judgment
-the last 3 woes are worse than the first 4 trumpet judgments
REVELATION 9
Revelation Chapter 9 speaks about 2 Armies:
(1.) THE ARMY FROM THE PIT – vs1-2 (5th trumpet)
(2.) THE ARMY FROM THE EAST – VS13-21 (6th trumpet)
THE ARMY FROM THE PIT
Revelation 9:1-12
verse 1 – 5TH TRUMPET JUDGMENT
—a star fell from heaven – this is a personage of some kind
-this is satan/the devil
-fallen – this star has already fallen – Luke 10:1-11,16-20/Is 14:12-14
-the devil is real and exists……….Emphasize Jesus…..
-the enemy is not in control/the Lord is in control
vs1-2 – THE BOTTOMLESS PIT
-there is a shaft or tunnel leading to hell
-the furnace is open and smoke pours out – Matthew 13:40-43
vs3-12 – THE ARMY FROM THE PIT
locusts – these are not normal locusts – not eating vegetation
-these are demon forces
1. DEMONS ARE SPIRIT CREATURES – Luke 11:24-26
-they inhabit other bodies
2. NOT EVERYTHING IS DEMONIC – Galatians 5:16-21
-demons jump on board
3. THE PURPOSE OF DEMONS IS TO TORMENT AND DESTROY
v4 – hurt…….v5 – torment…….v10 – sting
-satan leads them and they are organized
-we fight against people and not demons – Eph 6:10-18
4. BELIEVERS HAVE ALL AUTHORITY OVER DEMONIC FORCES – Revelation 9:4
-do not allow demons to torment you
5. DEMONS US PEOPLE FOR THEIR PURPOSES – Matthew 16:21-23
-look beyond the visible to see the invisible
-1 Corinthians 12:8-11 – the gift of discernment
5. DEMONS DEVELOP DOCTRINES – 1 Timothy 4:2
-not everything preached is from the Lord
universalism – everyone goes to heaven no matter what they do
annihilationism – when you die, everything ends
