Prayer – ACTS 1:14
Acts
PRAYER – ACTS 1:14
-the early and first church started in prayer – Acts 1:14
-Pentecost – means 50 – Acts 2:1…..40 days of ministry by Jesus and 10 days of prayer
-Jesus and prayer are the foundation of the church
-we must all have one mind when it comes to praying and corporate prayer
one accord – means to be together…to have one mind…to be in agreement
Why pray?
1. PRAYER REVEALS OUR DEPENDENCE ON THE LORD
-We need Jesus Christ all of the time
-we need Jesus in good time and bad times
2. PRAYER MOVES THE HAND OF THE LORD
-God moves when we pray and does not move when we do not pray
-Sovereignty – God can do anything He wants to do, but limits Himself when it comes to prayer and relied on His kids to pray and seek Him…
prayer – means to address someone (Acts 1:14)
***When we do pray, our prayers must be vocal and continual…
(1) VOCAL – Acts 2:6,11,13 – the 120 lifted their voices up to the Lord
-they cried out to the Lord in a corporate prayer meeting
-Psalm 107:6,13,19,28 – Crying Out To The Lord
Psalm 107:13-16 – Crying out to the Lord brings people to Him
-wandering without purpose and a reason to live
Psalm 107:13-16 – Crying out to the Lord breaks chains
-all oppression
Psalm 107:19-20 – Crying out to the Lord produces healing
healing – means to make whole
Psalm 107:27b-32 – Crying out to the Lord produces peace and calm
(2) CONTINUAL
-the word continual speaks of several things:
1. it is Biblical prayer – Matt 7:7-8…Col 4:2…Acts 2:42
2. It is strong prayer – bold and faith filled prayers
3. Stick To It prayer – prayer that never stops…is always…constant and daily
PUSH – pray until something happens
EXAMPLES: Genesis 32:22-32…1 Kings 7:17-24…Daniel 10:12-14
-we address Jesus when we pray – the one and only true and living God
