An Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
An Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
Acts 2:1-21 & 1 Chronicles 12:32
Definition of pour out
It speaks of abundance, overflowing and a gusher. It is the picture of the discovery of oil.
This is not a squirt or a drip….
How are we going to see an outpouring of the Holy Spirit?
Through prayer….
3 Points About Prayer
(1) PRAYER IS A NECESSITY
– God is Sovereign and will accomplish many things on His own
– For most things, the Lord only moves as His people pray
*God works through the prayer of His people*
Example – 1 Kings 18:1, 42-46
The Lord gives a promise here, but we still have to pray in the manifestation of that promise…
(2) PRAYER IS A PLEASURE
– What a pleasure to pray and spend time with the God of the universe…
– What a pleasure to fellowship with the Lord…
(3) PRAYER IS WORK – Philippians 2:12-13
– Prayer is not an easy spiritual discipline to do every day and continually
– Prayer is work
PRAYER POINT
(1) WE NEED CONTINUAL, PERSISTENT, PERSEVERING PRAYER….
***continual prayer produces a continual flow or outpouring of the Holy Spirit***
Continual – means to keep the pressure on…persist…endure…persevere…stick to it…don’t give up…
never quit…do not let up…
Acts 1:9-14 (v14)
Acts 12:1-11
Matthew 7:7-8
Luke 11:5-13
– We must all make a decision to persevere in our prayers…it is a decision to make
– Many of us are so close to seeing that breakthrough – keep on persisting…
