Mark 9:1-12

 The Transfiguration of Jesus Christ

(1) THE TRANSFIGURATION OF JESUS CHRIST TEACHES US ABOUT THE RETURN OF OUR LORD – vs1-2

-the 3 men refer to Peter, James and John and them seeing Jesus transfigured

-the transfiguration of Jesus is a revelation of the future millennial reign of Jesus

-Signs of the return of the Lord

1. violence –

2. 2 Timothy 3

v3 – without self-control – have no control over their passions/say anything they want

v3 – despisers of good – hostile to anything good

v3 – slanderers – false accusers and accusations

v3 – brutal – merciless/savage/cruel – they do not care who they hurt

v3 – unloving – irreconcilable differences

(2) THE TRANSFIGURATION OF JESUS CHRIST TEACHES US THAT CHARACTER IS A KEY COMPONENT IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE –

transfiguration – means to have our insides come to the outside

                        – means an outward expression of one’s inner character

-the character of Jesus comes to the outside

Definition of Character:  Character is doing what is right with the risk of personal loss

DOING WHAT IS RIGHT:

-this is the Word of God

           1. our Christian character is developed and grows as we read the Word of God

           2. We are to follow the Bible which is God’s standard for righteousness and absolute truth

WITH THE RISK OF PERSONAL LOSS

***There is much to gain from the Word and much to lose…

(3) THE TRANSFIGURATION OF JESUS TEACHES US THAT THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS A MOUNTAIN TOP EXPERIENCE – vs2,9

-Mountaintop experiences are amazing times with Jesus

-But the Christian life also includes valleys – v9

-Jesus is always with us no matter whether we are on the mountaintop or the valley

(4) CHRISTIANITY IS NOT AN INWARD FAITH –  vs5-6

-Christianity is a go faith and not a stay faith

-churches will grow as they become a go faith

-v9 – break the holy huddles of Christianity – people need Jesus

(5) MAN WORSHIP IS ENDING AND JESUS WORSHIP IS IN – vs4-8, 12-13

vs4, 8 – Elijah appeared and vanished

vs4, 8 – Moses appeared and vanished

vs12-13 – John the Baptist came and disappeared

But Jesus always stays – v8

v5 – Rabbi or Master – means the Great One

v7 – a cloud came and just stood over Jesus.  He is the only One to worship and honor and praise and worship…
